Sony Handycam FDR-AX100

Sony's finally putting 4K video capture within reach with the AX100.

Last year at CES Sony displayed what they were calling the "concept 4K Handycam." While that eventually became the FDR-AX1, it wasn't much of a Handycam as we'd know it. With high-end audio inputs, lots of manual control, a large body, and an outlandish $4,499.99 price, the AX1 wasn't really meant for mass consumption. This year, Sony's back with a true consumer-friendly 4K Handycam, the AX100, which will hit shelves for just $1,999.99.

The 4K/UHD revolution is real, and Sony has been building towards a model like the AX100 for some time. With the new XAVC-S codec and a price that's at least within striking distance for regular people, the AX100 seems poised to truly kick off the 4K revolution for early adopters.
