At last night's Digital Experience, iSmartAlarm showed of the latest addition to its connected home arsenal: the Doorfront. An Indiegogo success story, Doorfront is a smart device with a motion-activated HD camera, serving as a peephole, doorbell, and intercom all in one. Think of it as an electronic doorman.

When someone rings your doorbell, Doorfront will allow you to see, hear, and even speak to them via your smartphone.

When someone rings your doorbell, Doorfront will allow you to see, hear, and even speak to them via your smartphone. Sounds great for recluses, or those trying to avoid unwanted visitors. You can also live stream footage from the camera at any time.

But unless you're some kind of obsessive privacy freak, you probably won't be watching all the time. So Doorfront also has a motion sensor–activated HD camera that takes snapshots of unexpected visitors and sends them to your Android or iOS smartphone. It just might be the laziest way to find out who's been stealing those packages off your porch.

Many smart security systems only send you an alert after something has happened, but Doorfront is more proactive. For that reason alone, it's worthy of consideration. Doorfront will be available early Q1 of 2014. Firm pricing isn't yet available, but the reward levels for contributors on the company's Indiegogo page might provide some insight.
