This drone looks like a bird, and your cat will go nuts over it

Unsurprisingly, I love high tech gadgets and toys. I own just about every gaming system in existence and my smart phone is never far from my reach. Though I'm super invested in tech, I've never actually used a drone. Weird, right? Well, most drones are expensive. Like, real expensive. They're usually flown high above massive freeways and mountainous terrain, where amazing footage can be captured. Most high-end drones are out of my price range, but this one stands out because of its affordable price and unique design.

The Bionic Bird from ThinkGeek is one of the most playful drones I've ever seen. This device resembles a black bird and its charging station looks like an egg. But it's actually an ornithopter, meaning it achieves flight by flapping its wings. The bird isn't equipped with a camera, so you won't be able to capture video, but you can fly it indoors and outdoors using the companion app on your smart phone. The top speed is 12 mph and it can only fly for about eight minutes before losing its charge, but I can envision a cat having an absolute blast with this thing. The realistic design combined with the way it flits about may very well lure out your feline's inner predator.

The bird machine is currently on sale for $99 at ThinkGeek. It's not an unreasonable price for a fun toy, but if it's the bells and whistles you want, I recommend saving up for a high-end drone. A word to the wise, though, high-end drones can cost well over a thousand dollars. If you're going to fly an expensive drone, make sure you scope out the area, as you wouldn't want to mistakenly drive it into a tree.
