Given that going to the eye doctor is a bit of a high-risk enterprise at the moment, and most eye doctors have reduced hours or shut their doors for the time being, it might be difficult to buy new glasses in-person. There's something thrilling about trying on new pairs, but with brick-and-mortar stores staying shut, we're turning to online shops more frequently than normal.

Never fear—ordering glasses online doesn't have to be scary. There are many online glasses retailers that sell highly-rated frames from big hitters like Ray-Ban and Gucci, and even more with customizable services that let you try frames before you commit to buying. Some even come with virtual mirrors that allow you to "try on" glasses on the website (disclaimer: get ready to lose 5 hours of your life to playing with these tools).

Whether you’re looking for something in a lower price range, an update to your current look, or simply something new and fun, these glasses retailers are sure to have something for you. Give them a look.

1. GlassesUSA.com

The destination if you, like me, want to look like Harry Potter.

I reviewed GlassesUSA this year and loved it. The company has plenty of features that make buying glasses from your home easy, among them a prescription app where you can use your current glasses to assess your prescription. GlassesUSA also has lots of sales and seasonal promotions, with discounts on prescription frames and high-end designers.

They're a great choice if you're looking to try out an eyewear trend—you can't try before you buy, but GlassesUSA does have a generous return policy. The glasses themselves are high quality (I've tried both Zenni and GlassesUSA, and I'd go back to GlassesUSA in a heartbeat), and come with a great return policy in the event that you're unsatisfied.

Unlike some other online-only retailers, GlassesUSA offers name brand frames along with their lower price tier brands. They combine many of the features of the retailers on this list, making them a great option for a first-time foray into online eyewear purchasing.

2. Fitz Frames

Futuristic glasses for the future.

This is a fun one. Fitz Frames offers glasses exclusively for kids, and all its frames are 3D printed. It offers prescription, blue-light filtering, and sunglasses frames starting at $95 per pair.

It also offers something unique to this list: A subscription service for glasses based on the fact that kids break their glasses or lose them constantly. Starting at $185, you can subscribe to Fitz Frames to get two pairs of glasses and unlimited frames for the year, which is a great deal, especially if you have kids that are active or lose their glasses a lot.

3. Warby Parker

Anyone remember Warby Parker from their Tyler Oakley days?

Warby Parker is one of the few retailers on this list that started with an online model and moved into storefront retail over time, thanks to its success. The big draw with Warby Parker is its Home Try-On program, which allows you to select up to five pairs of glasses and have them shipped to you to try on before you select the pair you want to purchase. They have hundreds of great styles, and add-on features like blue light filters.

Compared to some of the other retailers on this list Warby Parker is a bit more expensive, but the try-on option and well-made products make it worth trying out.

4. Zenni

Trendy frames at great prices.

Zenni is a cheaper route, and if you’re looking to grab a new and trendy pair of glasses, this is the choice for you. It has tons of great styles at incredibly affordable price points. The only downside to Zenni is that you don’t have the option to try on the glasses beforehand—we recommend going in with a style in mind, especially if you're looking for specific trends. Its glasses are well-made for the price and a little bit addictive—you might find yourself wanting more than one pair before you're done.

5. EyeBuyDirect

I'd buy these directly if I were you.

EyeBuyDirect offers high-quality frames at competitive prices—much like Zenni and GlassesUSA, it's a great choice if you're looking to purchase multiple pairs of glasses or to find a specific pair of trendy frames.

One great thing about EyeBuyDirect that sets it apart is its consistent sales and deals—it's unlikely you'll end up paying full-price for the frames you choose. It offers 2-day delivery, which is shocking where glasses are concerned, and also offers glasses frames for kids, so the whole family can get their shopping done in one place.

Having a high-maintenance or tough prescription might cause you to incur extra fees at EyeBuyDirect, so keep that in mind before you purchase.

6. Lenscrafters

They're having a sale so hop on it.

Lenscrafters really got a lot of people started on their prescription glasses journey, myself included. Not only does it have brick and mortar locations everywhere, but it also sells a ton of glasses online. Lenscrafters primarily stocks name brands like Ray-Ban and Oakley, as well as more luxury brands like Tiffany. If you're looking for name-brand frames at competitive prices, Lenscrafters is a great pick. Aside from frames, Lenscrafters offer contact lenses from respected brands like Acuvue, and can be used as your primary source of contacts.

Lenscrafters return policy isn't as flexible as other online retailers on this list, so keep that in mine before purchasing.

7. Felix + Iris

Find your frames with Felix + Iris.

Felix + Iris offers a similar model to Warby Parker, with the option to try on four pairs at home before you commit. Its glasses are well-made, and while its price points are a bit higher than other online retailers, its prices are also consistent and fixed, so you won't find yourself checking out with several added fees tacked on. Felix + Iris offers free shipping on the try-on package and will also adjust and protect your lenses at no extra cost.
