Denon AH-C351 Headphones Review

By Mark Brezinski

The Denon AH-C351 in-ear headphones are sleek, portable, black, and priced at an affordable $50. The first thing you'd notice about these headphones is that the cord is remarkably short: less than two feet. This length is to allow the headphones to connect to a media player in an arm holster. If you don't wear this fashionable exercise accessory, the included extension cord lengthens the AH-C351s to a more normal length for in-ear headphones.

Audio quality on the AH-C351s isn't the greatest, but it isn't bad either. The main issue is poor frequency response: mid-range tones might sound a bit muted, as will some high-pitched tones. There are also two minor issues: one with distortion and the other with isolation. On our distortion test, we noticed there are low levels of distortion present at all frequencies, but since the amounts are so low and even, we doubt most users will notice at all. In terms of isolation, we were surprised to see the AH-C351s allow more external noise to get through to your ears than most in-ear headphones. These three issues aside, the AH-C351 still manage to pull a good audio score, especially for a set of headphones at its price point.

We'd recommend the AH-C351s to anyone looking to upgrade from their media player's packed-in headphones. At $50, they're a good deal for what they offer, both in terms of audio quality and a great user experience. We'd also recommend these headphones to any joggers: the short cord is the perfect length for arm-mounted media players, the ear buds won't fall out easily, and the lack of isolation should help you be more aware of your surroundings.
