Summary of Other Reviews for the Gateway DX4720-03

The Gateway DX4720-03 is a budget desktop computer system that runs on the Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 Dual Core Processor for an enhanced performance. The system can be equipped with up to 640GB of hard drive and 4GB of RAM. Other nifty features include; a digital media manager with a "smart copy" button, a dual-layer DVD drive, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI out and a FireWire 400 port.

Justin Yu from the online publication Cnet reviewed the Gateway DX4720-03 and gave it four and half stars out of five. The sleek design and the glossy black finished chassis with subtle red embellishments is the first thing that catches one’s attention. In fact one doesn’t usually associate such a stylish design with budget systems according to Cnet. The DX4720-03 also boasts of a comprehensive feature set and its quite commendable that one comes across features like a fast dual-core, HDMI options given the fact that the system has been reasonably priced. Cnet also compared the desktop system with the Dell Inspiron 530-115B and when it came to tasks like running applications like Photoshop or iTunes, the DX4720-03 performed better. Cnet also observed that even though the Gateway only uses two cores compared with three in the Dell 530, its .4GHz lead and overall clock speed is faster.

Bad

The Gateway DX4720-03 comes recommended to all sorts of users barring gamers or those who require high end video cards and ultra fast processors. Justin Yu from Cnet was surprised by the lack of a Gigabit Ethernet connection and also wasn’t too impressed by the limited memory expansion option. The desktop system also dropped the ball in Cnet's multitasking and Cinebench multicore CPU tests and  according to the reviewer, rivals systems like the Dell Inspiron 530 and the HP Pavilion a6620f performed better.

Bottom Line
 

Despite a few weaknesses, the Gateway DX4720-03 is a solid computing system and comes recommended from Cnet. The on board fast dual-core processor is extremely fast and the system also comes equipped with high-grade components. It offers a fantastic feature set at a reasonable price and performs admirably well in almost all scenarios.
