Samsung LN46A750 LCD HDTV Review

By Alfredo Padilla

The Samsung LN46A750 is an excellent 46-inch LCD HDTV, but quality will cost you as the unit starts at $1900. In addition to solid performance the Samsung LN46A750 is also an attractive unit, sporting a smoky glass bezel, glossy finish and smooth curves. This is a TV you won’t feel embarrassed to show off. Like most HDTVs sold nowadays the Samsung LN46A750 supports full 1080p content, otherwise known as “true” HD.

The Samsung LN46A750 offers a good selection of input and output ports. We were pleased to see that in addition to four HDMI inputs and the usual assortment of analog and digital audio and video ports the Samsung LN46A750 also sports a USB port. This allows you to connect any USB mass storage device and play back video, audio and image files, although the range of files supported is a bit limited.

We were quite happy with the audio quality from the Samsung LN46A750’s speakers. Significantly better than the average TV you still shouldn’t expect it to replace even an inexpensive surround sound setup.

The menu system on the Samsung LN46A750 is relatively simple to use, but we didn’t find the manual very helpful. The remote is a mixed bag. We liked the ergonomics and durability, but found that the button layout could be better.

Performance (Read the full performance results at Televisioninfo.com)

The Samsung LN46A750 did very well in our test of blacks and whites. The blacks were deep, the whites were very bright and we saw very good accuracy in the greys in-between. We were also very happy with the Samsung LN46A750’s contrast ratio, which was significantly better than most LCD displays. The Samsung LN46A750’s color performance was not quite as good, but was still above average.

We were pleased at how well the Samsung LN46A750 handled motion, even fast paced scenes should look good on this display. The viewing angle was good for an LCD, but doesn’t match Plasma TVs. One issue with the Samsung LN46A750 is reflectance, the glossy surface of the TV can cause problems, so pay attention to the way you lay out your room if you purchase this HDTV.

Comparisons (Read more in-depth comparisons at Televisioninfo.com)

The Samsung LN46A750 is one of the better performers we’ve seen thus far, providing users with above average to excellent performance almost across the board. You will pay for this, however, as the Samsung LN46A750 is significantly more expensive than the Vizio VO47L and other entry-level LCD televisions.
