Summary of Other Reviews for the Sony VGN-Z530

The Sony VAIO VGN-Z530 has a list price of $1,999 and can be categorized as an ultra-portable notebook. Running on the Windows Vista Business operating system, the notebook comes equipped with a 13.1-inch scratch-resistant XBRITE-DuraView LCD with 16:9 aspect ratio, measures just around 8.3 inches deep and draws it juice from an Intel Centrino 2 processor. Other features include; HDMI output, a built-in biometric fingerprint scanner, integrated Sprint Mobile Broadband technology and Stereo A2DP Bluetooth technology.

Good

The first thing Laptop Magazine noticed about the Z530N is its brushed aluminum design with stylish cylindrical display hinges. The isolated keyboard makes for easy and comfortable typing and the touchpad was found to be large too. For the reviewer at Laptop Magazine the best thing about the notebook is its LED-backlit XBrite-DuraView screen which turned out to be extremely vibrant and and had excellent viewing angles.  The Z530N’s 2.4-GHz processor made multi-tasking a breeze and the notebook also switched between the on board integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD and Nvidia’s discrete GeForce 9300M GS graphics card with ease.

Bad

The Sony VAIO VGN-Z530 is a solid performer but according to Laptop Magazine, the Lenovo ThinkPad X200 is a better alternative. The notebook suffered from slow boot times and Laptop Magazine blames the hard drive for it. Laptop Magazine's review unit came equipped with a Blu-Ray drive and on playing a Heroes disc, the website found the Blu-Ray performance underwhelming. The on board touchpad buttons were also found to be uncomfortable since they were small and placed awkwardly

Bottom

The Sony VAIO VGN-Z530N may not be as sleek as the Macbook Air or the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 however it will draw attention from the get go. Apart from its stylish form factor, the notebook also was given a thumbs by Laptop Magazine for its fast performance, brilliant display and switchable graphics and fast-integrated mobile broadband. The VGN-Z530N hence comes highly recommended and Laptop Magazine find it ideal for the multi-media junkies out there.
