In the galaxy we’re currently living in, we must talk about one of the most exciting sci-fi series to grace the silver screen. Star Wars Day is just around the corner. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the series that’s brought joy to so many over the years. Since its explosive debut in 1977, Star Wars has always had plenty of content for fans to engage with. This year is no different. In 2024, we’ll be treated to a new S_tar Wars_ show and a new video game. If those weren't enough, on May 4, select theaters will be showing The Phantom Menace along with a preview for the Acolyte, which premieres later this year!

Here's everything you need to know about Star Wars Day, including Star Wars products to shop. May the fourth be with you, always.

What is Star Wars Day?

Star Wars Day is a day that commemorates the sci-fi multimedia juggernaut, Star Wars. Fans of the franchise will celebrate by watching the movies and shows, reading the books, playing the games, and buying new merch.

When is Star Wars Day?

Star Wars Day is celebrated annually on May 4, which falls on a Saturday this year.

Why is May the 4th Star Wars Day?

Because it’s punny.

“May the force be with you,” is a prominent phrase in Star Wars and “May (the) Fourth” sounds similar, so fans went with May the Fourth as Star Wars Day. If you want to keep the fun going, you can celebrate “Revenge of the Fifth” or “Revenge as the Sixth” as a continuation of Star Wars Day, as they sound like “Revenge of the Sith,” the third (and best) movie of the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

When does the Acolyte release?

The first episode of Star Wars: The Acolyte releases on Tuesday, June 4.

When does Star Wars Outlaws release?

Star Wars Outlaws is an open-world video game taking place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It releases on August 30.

If you want a cuddle buddy for your next Star Wars marathon, we suggest getting an adorable plush toy. Sure, Wookies like Chewbacca are soft, Ewoks are cuddly, and we like to imagine Jawas are adorable under those hoods, but of the galaxy’s certifiably cute critters, the most popular is undoubtedly Grogu. Colloquially known as "Baby Yoda," Grogu has captured the hearts of many since he made his debut in the first season of The Mandalorian in 2019. There's a ton of official merchandise of him, including this adorable 12-inch Mattel doll.

It can be hard to enjoy the original trilogy for purists who want to see the movies as they existed in the 70s and 80s. The only way you can stream episodes IV-VI is via the Special Editions. However, VHS tapes of the original trilogy made before 1997 (when the Special Edition made its debut) feature the original format. If you don't have a VHS player anymore (or never had one), you'll be able to find one easily on sites like Amazon.
