Robot vacuum cleaners have been around for years. Up until recently, many of them have left a lot to be desired. But, not iRobot and its hardware: while their feature sets may have improved over the years, the quality of their Roomba robotic vacuums has always been excellent. Today’s Roombas can deftly navigate your home and tackle the most demanding floor cleaning tasks. Best of all, iRobot offers models at a variety of price points making it easy to find one that’s affordable, for most people.

In order to choose the right Roomba for your home, you’ll need to put some thought into your cleaning needs. Are you primarily cleaning hardwood or carpeted floors (or a mix of both)? Do you need a Roomba that can pick up a ton of pet hair? Are you away often and looking to control your robot vacuum using your smartphone? What can you afford to spend on your new robot buddy? It’s a lot to consider.

To make finding the right Roomba a little easier, we’ve put together this list, featuring a number of great options available for Canadians to buy.

1. The crème de la crème: iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ aced nearly every test we put it through.

We’ve tested a lot of robot vacuums over the years, and iRobot’s Roomba i7+ is our favourite to date. It offers a ton of convenience features that makes its operation as hands-off as a robot vacuum can possibly be, including a mobile app that lets you schedule cleaning on a room-by-room basis, voice controls through Google Home or Amazon Alexa devices, and a base station that empties the i7+'s haul of dirt and pet hair into an internal storage bin.

Beyond all of this, the Roomba i7+ is a great vacuum, with powerful suction that works on hardwood floors and carpet alike.

2. An ideal iRobot for pet owners: iRobot Roomba i7+

When it comes to capturing pet dander, the i7+ can’t be beat.

There are so many reasons why the i7+ is the Roomba we suggest for most people to buy. While it’s a great robot vacuum, overall, It performs exceptionally well where pet hair is concerned. Our American colleagues singled it out as the best robot vacuum for cat owners and it works like a treat on dog fur as well (we’ll get back to you once we’ve tried it with moose and bear fur).

Much of this Roomba’s success with pet hair is due to its dual rubber brushes that capture what your pets shed, without ever getting tangled up by it. During testing, it picked up 75% of the pet hair we put on the floor. What’s more, the i7+'s high-efficiency filter traps 99% of cat and dog allergens.

3. For cleaning enthusiasts: iRobot Roomba i7+ and Braava Jet m6 mop bundle

Let your robot vacuum and automated mop tag team the floors in your home.

Again with the Roomba i7+: While it does a great job of keeping floors debris-free, it can’t help you with stains or spills. To keep your laminate, tile or hardwood floors spotless, you’ll want to pair it with the Braava Jet m6 robot mop. iRobot sells Roomba i7+ and Braava Jet m6 in a bundle to make purchasing both robots at the same time easy—and for less money than you'd spend were you to buy them separately.

The Roomba i7+ and Braava Jet m6 run a tag-team on your filthy floors with iRobot’s Imprint Link Technology that triggers the Braava m6 to mop up after the Roomba finishes vacuuming. If you already own a Roomba, the Braava Jet m6 is a great addition to your hands-off cleaning arsenal. You can attach either a wet mop or dry cleaning pad to the m6, depending on your needs, and its precision sprayer allows it to clean up the most stubborn messes.

4. The most affordable option: iRobot Roomba 675

The iRobot Roomba 675 is the most affordable Roomba you can get.

The Roomba 675 is more than up to the task of cleaning your floors, making the drudgery of manually vacuuming your home a must only when a deeper cleaning is required.

As with the Roomba i7+, the Roomba 675 packs plenty of smart features, including the iRobot Home app that lets you schedule and customize cleanings, as well as integration with Alexa and Google Assistant.

It’s worth noting, however, that the 675 can’t empty itself like its fancier sibling, the i7+, can.

5. The upgraded option: iRobot Roomba s9+

We haven’t tested the iRobot Roomba s9+, but it comes with many similar features as the i7+.

If you want the absolute best Roomba available, you’ll want to get your hands on iRobot’s Roomba s9+. Sporting a premium gold-and-black aesthetic, the S9+ promises more suction power than any other Roomba, and better, deeper cleaning along edges and in corners.

Like the i7+, the s9+ automatically empties itself into its base station, which can store approximately up to 60 days worth of dirt. It also boasts all of the same smart mapping and connectivity technology found in iRobot’s other high-end Roombas, including voice control through Alexa and Google Assistant as well as the ability to clean specific areas/rooms of your home, on-demand.

As an added bonus, s9+ owners with allergies will be thrilled with its anti-allergen system that captures 99% of pollen and mold allergens.
