Electric vehicles are here to stay, and every year sees more and more competition entering the EV space. Some, like the Tesla lineup, are disguised as regular cars. But others are carving out an entirely new niche in design and functionality. Enter: the Arcimoto three-wheel electric vehicle, which is aptly self-categorized as the world’s first “fun utility vehicle.”
The Arcimoto is a three-wheel, two-seater vehicle that runs entirely on electric power. With ATV-style handlebars, and a golf cart-esque roll cage, it’s certainly an eye-catching bike, and quite fun to tool around in. At $11,900 for the base model, the pricing is in the same ballpark as typical motorcycles. It’s super fun to scoot around in, and it really flies. And thanks to a smart design and low center of gravity, all three wheels stay solidly on the ground even when turning at high speeds.
- Starts at $11,900
- Tops out at 80 mph
- Goes from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds
- Lasts up to 130 miles on a single charge
- 10x more efficient than an average car
- 240V and 120V on-board chargers
The open frame design that makes it extra enjoyable in good weather, and the company is in its prototype stage for doors that can be bolted on to enclose the vehicle. If you’re a city-dweller, you’ll enjoy the motorcycle-like ability to navigate through traffic, and since it’s so small you can technically drive it in the HOV lane without a passenger (though with no doors, it might not be the best choice for highway driving). You can customize the trike with bolt-on accessories to hold things like luggage or surf boards, and there’s even a locking mailbox for added storage
The Arcimoto is available for pre-order now with a fully refundable $100 deposit, and the first vehicles are estimated to begin shipping to customers in the fall of this year.
