Rather than stopping at coffee shop, doughnut house or convenience store on your way to work, buying a good at-home coffee maker can help you start the day a little earlier – and probably save some money, too.

A home coffee maker need not be as rugged as a brewer that will be located in a business, unless you've got a serious caffeine habit. However, there are still some considerations to keep in mind:

Size A brewer has to fit in your kitchen without taking up too much counter space. At the same time, it has to be big enough to fit your needs. If you're planning on using a travel mug or thermos, measure a brewer to make sure that your favorite cup will fit.

Time To Brew If you tend to rush out of the house in a hurry, or if others make coffee right after you, you'll want a brewer that makes a quick cup of coffee. Otherwise, that line in the drive-through might actually take less time than making coffee at home.

Type Of Coffee Just because you enjoy a quick cup of coffee in the morning doesn't mean you don't also like some espresso after dinner, or a flavored tea on the weekend. Make sure you choose a brewer that can make the kinds of coffee you'll want every day, all day – not just at 5 AM.

Ease of Cleaning You'll want to get a coffee maker that's easy to disassemble and clean. If you don't clean your coffee maker often, it can clog or the coffee it produces may taste funny. This is especially true if you're using a pod coffee system with flavored coffees.
