I don't know about you, dear reader, but there are some mornings where it's next to impossible for me to get out of bed. Motivation in general can be hard to come by when there's none of that life-giving, caffeinated elixir waiting for you. But thanks to Belkin and Mr. Coffee, you'll soon be able to start brewing a fresh cup o' joe without even leaving your bed.

Utilizing Belkin's WeMo smart home technology, Mr. Coffee's $150 10-Cup Smart Optimal Brew Coffeemaker connects to your home's WiFi network and can be controlled from iOS and Android devices. Moreover, it integrates into the broader family of WeMo devices, including WiFi cameras, smart light bulbs, and motion detectors, among others.

The Smart Optimal Brew Coffeemaker boasts a number of cool features that make it sound like it may actually live up to its name. Not only can you prompt the machine to start brewing on the fly or schedule coffee to automatically start brewing at certain times on certain days of the week, but this Mr. Coffee also sends vital status info back to your phone. Through the WiMo app, the maker can alert you when it needs a new filter, or even when there's leftover coffee in the carafe.

Jarden, a conglomerate that sells small appliances under the Sunbeam, Holmes, Rival, and Mr. Coffee brands, has been a big booster for Belkin's emerging WeMo smarthome ecosystem.

Aside from this smart coffee maker, Jarden's most interesting WeMo tie-in thus far has been a connected Crock Pot. Of course, not everybody needs to keep tabs on their beef burgundy from the office, but it's a neat option for busy families who want a hot meal waiting for them when they get home.

For us caffeine-addicted types, though, a connected coffee pot might just be the ultimate smart appliance.
