Design & Usability

Samsung goes all in on usability.

Samsung has clearly put ease-of-use at the forefront with the NE58F9500SS. From the almost seamless slide-in design to the user friendly Guiding Light controls, every effort has been made to ensure as pleasant a user experience as possible. The Guiding Light control panel is a simple idea, brilliantly executed. The panel—fixed at a convenient 75 degree angle—only illuminates the appropriate and selectable options, with the controls flowing from left to right, essentially providing users with a cooking roadmap. Without it, one could easy become intimidated by the multitude of cooking options available with this range.In many ways Guiding Light closely resembles the Wave Touch system found in the Electrolux EW27EW55GS. Both illuminate only the available options and guide the user through the cooking process.

The NE58F9500SS offers many of the frills and features one expects from a mid-range kitchen appliance. The burner knobs offer a tactile counterpoint to the oven's digital controls, while the large oven and storage drawer offer an easy (not to mention elevated) way to check on your food. The rangetop features a total of five burners. The front left Dual Fast burner offers variable sizes of 6-inches and 9-inches while the front left burner can adjust between 9-inches and 12-inches. Finally the rear middle burner acts as a warming surface for sauces and soups. {{photo_gallery "Vanity", "Front", "Controls", "Burners 1", "Burners 2", "Burners Cleaning", "Oven Detail", "Drawer", "Broiler",}} Our only complaint about the otherwise excellent design of this range is its ceramic cooking surface. While the rangetop itself has a simple efficient look and is a breeze to clean, the lack of any visibly raised lip around the edge means that any liquid spilt on the surface will easily run off onto your floors and in the gap between the range and your counters. (Ewww!) It's a minor issue, but worth consideration.

Rangetop

As good as electric rangetops get.

While it doesn't quite measure up to induction, the NE58F9500SS's radiant electric rangetop performance is cause for excitement. The Dual Fast burners were just that, taking a speedy four minutes to boil six cups of water. That is an amazing result, considering that most induction burners manage around three minutes for the same amount of water.

The rangetop also offered a plethora of temperatures to play with, from a warm 99ºF to an absolutely blistering 831ºF. Whether it be searing a steak or gently melting butter, the NE58F9500SS should be up to the challenge.

Oven, Broiler, & Convection

Almost as impressive as the rangetop. Almost.

The NE58F9500SS's oven didn't quite match up to the high bar set by the rangetop, but it got pretty close. Despite excellent oven precision, the oven tended to overshoot the target temperature. In all three accuracy tests, the oven settled between 15ºF and 50ºF above the target. Our concerns for this oven's quality were soon assuaged by our real food cook tests, which revealed remarkable temperature consistency throughout the cavity in the form of two evenly cooked cakes. One complaint: the bottom element was a bit overenthusiastic, as demonstrated by burnt cookie bottoms.

Both the oven and broiler reached target temperature in no time. The preheat was particularly impressive: it took seven minutes to reach 350ºF. Grilling enthusiasts also have reason to rejoice, as the broiler kept up with a four minute preheat.

Why We Love It

Jack of all trades, master of most

The Samsung NE58F9500SS is a sure bet.

Often, the decision to invest in a home appliance requires a willingness to compromise, whether it be ease-of-use over performance or vice versa. Therefore, it's refreshing to find an oven range that provides both. The NE58F9500SS ticks all the necessary boxes with its excellent burners and sturdy oven, but the range also goes a few steps further with the easy to use Guiding Light controls. So if you are in the market for a slide-in electric range and don't mind a bit of gentle hand holding when it comes to usability, the Samsung NE58F9500SS is a sure bet.

Oven & Broiler Performance

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Possible the only major shortcoming with the NE58F9500SS's oven was temperature accuracy. The Keep Warm setting averaged around 217ºF, 42ºF above the target temperature of 175ºF. Additionally both the 350ºF and Convection setting had similar results: averaging 375ºF, 15ºF above the 350ºF target. Fortunately, all three settings were precise with a temperature variance of only 10ºF.  {{photo_gallery "Keep Warm", "350F", "Convection"}} In our cook tests we measured a noticeable color difference between the bottoms and tops of our cakes and cookies, suggesting too much heat radiating from the lower element. Impressively there was little noticeable difference between the individual cookies, suggesting consistent temperatures throughout the oven with few cold or hot spots.  {{ gallery "Cake Top", "Cake Bottom", "Cookie Top", "Cookie Bottom", }}

Most impressive where the broiler and preheat speeds: the broiler took only 4 minutes to reach 602ºF while the oven took 7 minutes to reach 350ºF.

Rangetop Performance

The NE58F9500SS rangetop was uniformly excellent. The front left Dual Fast burner blasted through 6 cups of water in only 4 minutes with the remaining burners taking 11 minutes to boil the same amount of water. The rangetop offered an incredible maximum temperature of 831ºF with an average of 752ºF. The NE58F9500SS's low temperature were equally impressive with a minimum of 95ºF with an average of 99ºF.
