  • What You Should Know When Buying a High-End Dishwasher

High-end dishwashers sit squarely between affordable models from mainstream brands and the best luxury dishwashers on the market that are often special order and priced far higher than average.

While high-end dishwashers cost more than the average dishwasher, they’re not out of reach for the average homeowner with a few budget adjustments and priority checks. They’re also incredible investments, offering extended lifespans sometimes up to 20 years, premium features, smart capabilities, and advanced wash systems.

To help you find the right high-end dishwasher, we tested many models in our laboratory and researched thousands of reviews for others to narrow down a list of the best high-end dishwashers you can get online right now.

Currently, the best high-end dishwasher you can buy is the Thermador Sapphire DWHD770WFM (available at AJ Madison) , for it's amazing aesthetic and near-perfect cleaning performance.

Editor's Note: Appliances purchases are a large investment of both money and time. We’ve not only compiled lists of the best dishwashers to shop, but also the best places to buy in-stock appliances right now and the best times of year to buy appliances to take advantage of sales and new releases.

What You Should Know When Buying a High-End Dishwasher

What’s The Difference Between High-end Dishwashers and Luxury Dishwashers?

A good indication of whether you’re dealing with a high-end or a luxury dishwasher is to look at the brand name. Bosch and Miele are two of the biggest high-end dishwasher brands, but Samsung, Electrolux, KitchenAid, Café, and Thermador are also included. Stepping up to premium appliances, luxury dishwasher brands include Cove, Viking, JennAir, Gaggenau, Thermador Sapphire, Monogram, and Fisher & Paykel.

When it comes to operation, cleaning performance, and special features, you get what you pay for—to a point. These machines are built to deliver top performance. You’re paying for near-silent operation, higher-quality parts like stainless steel tubs over plastic, special soil sensors, height-adjustable racks, efficient drying technologies, and superior craftsmanship with design.

Across the board, manufacturers spend more time developing, testing, and creating high-end and luxury dishwashers, and that time translates into higher prices. However, at a certain point technology and features stop justifying a higher price tag.

Dave Ellerby, Reviewed’s chief scientist, says, “In theory, you could up the performance of your dishwasher by using more powerful pumps to blast your dishes with hotter water and drying them with energy-hungry heaters and fans. But there's a limit to how far you can carry this process, and high-end dishwashers are probably close to that limit.

Energy Star efficiency calculations are based on water and electricity use, so a supercharged dishwasher wouldn't get an Energy Star rating. It would also be noisy, and eventually, you'd hit temperatures and pressures where you'd damage your dishes, especially plasticware.”

While high-end appliances deliver strong performance, luxury dishwashers reach a place where you’re just paying more for the clout of owning one.

Do High-End Dishwashers Last Longer?

According to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, the average dishwasher lasts about nine years.

Appliances don’t last as long these days for a few reasons: economic factors that affect all durable goods, production of parts frequently getting outsourced to lowest-bidding third-party manufacturers, and increasing usage of plastic instead of metal.

However, many high-end dishwashers will keep running for longer than average, sometimes twice as long, especially if you maintain them. Bosch typically sticks it out for about 12 years, while Miele says its dishwashers last for an astounding 20 years.

Where Can You Buy A High-end Dishwasher or Luxury Appliance?

Don’t expect to shop these elite kitchen appliances at big box stores like The Home Depot or Lowe’s. Instead, you’ll typically have to look at specialty retailers or smaller showrooms.

You can find Electrolux, Samsung, and Bosch dishwashers at AJ Madison and Abt. You can also buy directly from the brands.

In November 2022, German premium appliance manufacturer Miele announced an exclusive retail partnership with Lowe’s, where it will be selling a few select dishwashers and front-loading washing machine models.
