Cramped but functional, the upper rack can fit bowls and cups.

There are no adjustable tines inside this dishwasher.

The sub-$400 dishwasher market doesn't put a huge priority on design. However, you do get a stainless steel exterior with this dishwasher. It's a fingerprint magnet but it's there.

The interior design of the FFCD2413US is sparse. The racks slid in and out and that's it. When you open up the stainless-steel door, you'll be greeted by a mostly dull-gray plastic interior with immovable tines. We bring that up because while plastic may be a miracle of the modern age it is not very good at blocking sound. During operation, you can expect this Frigidaire to produce around 60 dBA, which is enough to drown out a normal conversation or keep you awake if you sleep near the kitchen.

The cutlery basket has no slots or dividers, meaning utensils can sometimes get bunched up.

The cutlery basket has no slots or dividers, meaning utensils can sometimes get bunched up.

The only other design choice of note is the cutlery basket. It's an old-school open model with no slots or lid. Having one of these means it's easier to place utensils in but the lack of separators can cause forks and spoons to bunch up, preventing a good clean.

Three spray jets help blast away stains.

The Frigidaire FFCD2413US uses a triple-spray system to get your dishes clean. In our testing labs, we presented this dishwasher with dirty dishes covered in everything from oatmeal to baked-on cheese. The FFCD2413US acquitted itself well. The Normal cycle blasted off dairy, meat, and spinach stains off plates, bowls, and spoons. We saw similar results with the Heavy cycle as well, but that test included the added challenge of baked-on cheese, burnt sugar, and some leftover lasagna.

We found bits of spinach on the back of plates after each wash cycle

All those benefits aside, our testing showed the FFCD2413US struggled when it came to redeposit. Basically, after every wash, we found specks of food spattered about the interior of the dishwasher. The main culprit was spinach, which even high-end dishwashers have trouble with, as leafy greens tend to clump when wet. It's not a deal breaker because our testing dishes are much dirtier than your typical load. It's not a deal-breaker of a problem, but you may find yourself running some items through a wash cycle twice to thoroughly remove every bit of food.

What Users Say

Averaging over 100 reviews from Home Depot, the Frigidaire FFCD2413US scores a 3.9 out of 5. Customers there are enamored with the cleaning performance but dislike the noise and poor cutlery basket design. While this dishwasher scores a 4.7 out of 5 at Best Buy, the sample size is small (just 10 reviews at the time of publication).

The controls are pretty simple and the options limited.

The controls are pretty simple and the options limited.

The most common time to buy a dishwasher is when your old one breaks. When we make begrudging purchases, we tend to gravitate towards cheaper options. The Frigidaire FFCD2413US is an acceptable budget choice. As long as you scrape off excess food before loading in your dishes, you'll likely be satisfied. But if you'd like some more options in the same price range, we suggest checking out our roundup of the Best Affordable Dishwashers.
