If you want espresso quickly and easily, you want an espresso maker that can handle the complex process of brewing automatically. You want an espresso maker that can do all of the tedious work of producing an espresso shot for you. You want a fully automatic espresso maker.
Fully Automatic Espresso makers such as the Gaggia Academia can do the entire process of brewing an espresso shot by themselves, without you having to do anything except keep them supplied with water and beans. These miracles of caffeine engineering automatically grind the beans, tamp them, heat the water, brew the coffee and dispose of the used coffee grinds afterwards, all at the press of a button. The ones that we tested do a good job as well: we found that the espresso produced by the Gaggia Academia was at least as good as that produced by a high-end manual espresso maker such as the Rancilio Silivia, and the process was a lot easier and cleaner.
The high-end models also include features that wouldn't be out of place in your local coffee house, such as the ability to make a variety of drinks and control the brewing process. Some even include refrigerated milk reservoirs that keeps the milk chilled until it is needed, and automatic milk foamers to make lattes and other milk drinks.
There is a cost, though: these devices are typically significantly more expensive than their manual cousins, starting at around $800 for a fairly basic model and going up to $5000 for the higher end models. If that is too much for your budget, you might want to consider a capsule espresso maker that is not as quick as the fully automatic models, but which keeps the coffee in a sealed container that is easier to handle than ground beans.
