You're doing it wrong. Ice cream should be pushed, not scooped—or so says inventor Michael Chou.
Here's the problem: The traditional ice cream scoop is designed to make you pull, twist, and pry at your dessert using your wrist. Not only does that put strain on your lower arm and increase the risk of injury, but it's also an inefficient way to scoop ice cream.
Now, the Midnight Scoop is here to show you how you should have been doing it all along.
Chou's invention features a thin, blade-like edge helps it cut through hard ice cream like butter. The base of the scoop forces ice cream to curl into a spherical, sundae-friendly shape, and the solid aluminum build is also supported by multiple industrial strength coatings.
Combined, these features create a sturdy, ergonomic ice cream scoop that should prove a formidable adversary to even the toughest batches of ice cream.
More importantly, the thick handle is designed to promote a pushing motion. If used properly, Chou explains, this prevents over-reliance on the small, weak muscles in your wrist.
"Instead, you hold the curved end with the palm of your hand and 'push' into the ice cream," Chou writes. "This allows you to keep your wrists straight and protected while you use large muscles like your arms and chest—which are significantly stronger than your wrist."
Apparently, a lot of ice cream fanatics agree. The project recently completed its round of funding on Kickstarter, raising a stunning $168,468 on a mere $17,500 pledge goal.
Early adopters were able to pick up a Midnight Scoop for $35 to $45, depending on their Kickstarter pledge tier. That may sound like a lot for an ice cream scoop, but it's nothing compared to this ice cream indulgence.
When the scoops are available to the general public, they'll be going for $50 each. Do you love your ice cream that much?
