Seiki Digital is based in Diamond Bar, California, and makes a wide range of HD and UHD TVs, as well as an HDMI cable that upscales 4K content. But Seiki Digital is only an American front for the much larger Tsinghua Tongfang Company, based out of Tsinghua University in Beijing.

    TCL S4 LED TV review

Seiki TVs have only been on our radar for a few years, but parent company Tsinghua has been in business for almost two decades. The company's supply chain and vertically integrated electronic components don't allow it to produce TVs that compete with the best in the business, but does allow it to offer spectacular value. The rest, as they say, is history.

This year, Seiki will release UHD/4K TVs ranging from 40 to 65 inches, and HD TVs ranging from 32 to 65 inches, on the U.S. market. The eccentric, ever-popular "Retro TV" is also back this year—and in new colors, too!

4K/UHD TVs

UMT Series

The UMT Series is available in sizes ranging from 40 to 65 inches, badged SE40UMT, SE50UMT, SE55UMT, and SE65UMT, respectively. This is Seiki's "smart" line of 4K/UHD TVs for 2016. Other than screen size, the four TVs in the UMT series are basically identical in features and expected performance.

KEY SPECS: • 40, 50, 55, and 65-inch models (prices pending) • 3,840 x 2,160 (4K) resolution • 6.5ms response time (reported) • 1.07 billion colors (10-bit processing) • 1 x HDMI @ 60 Hz, 3 x HDMI @ 30 Hz • "Muse" smart platform

UM Series

The UM Series is essentially a more affordable version of Seiki's "smart" UHD series, the UMT. The three TVs in the UM series (SE42UM, SE55UM, SE65UM) don't have the "Muse" smart TV features, but are otherwise identical to the UMT series, according to Seiki.

KEY SPECS: • 42, 55, and 65-inch models (prices pending) • 3,840 x 2,160 (4K) resolution • 6.5ms response time (reported) • 1.07 billion colors (10-bit processing) • 1 x HDMI @ 60 Hz, 3 x HDMI @ 30 Hz

HD TVs

FYT/HYT Series

Seiki's FYT (or HYT) Series marks the company's smart/connected 720p (HD) or 1080p (Full HD) LED TVs for 2016. The series consists of four Full HD and one HD model, in sizes ranging from 32 inches to 65 inches (SE32HYT, SE40FYT, SE42FYT, SE55FYT, SE65FYT). Other than their differing screen size, and the smallest model offering lower resolution, the FYT/HYT TVs are identical.

KEY SPECS: • 32, 40, 42, 55, and 65-inch models (prices pending) • 1,376 x 768 (720p) / 1,920 x 1,080 (1080p) resolution • 6.5ms response time (reported) • 16.7 million colors (8-bit processing) • 1 x HDMI input

FY/HY Series

As you might have guessed, the FY (1080p) and HY (720p) LED TVs are the non-smart version of Seiki's FYT/HYT Series. Available in a huge range of sizes—from a tiny 19 inches all the way to the largest 65-inch screen—the FY/HY Series is Seiki's most basic and affordable line for 2016.

KEY SPECS: • 19, 24, and 32-inch 720p models (prices pending) • 40, 42, 50, 55, and 65-inch 1080p models (prices pending) • 5.0/6.5ms response time (reported) • 16.7 million colors (8-bit processing) • 1 x HDMI input

Retro TV (SE22FR01 & SE24FR01)

{{amazon name="Seiki SE22FR01 22-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED TV (Retro TV)", asin="B00DQBA4D8", align="right"}} One of Seiki's more popular offerings from a couple of years back, the so-called Retro TV is getting a re-release in 2016. While the specs and model name should be identical to the 2013 version, the 2016 release is said to bring new colors to the table.

KEY SPECS: • 22 and 24-inch models (prices pending) • 1,920 x 1,080 (1080p) panel resolution • Available colors: red, yellow, and purple • 6.5ms response time (reported) • 3 x HDMI input
