It might seem unusual for a washing machine to be the center of attention, but based on the number of people who have purchased one after reading our review of it, not to mention the volume of positive user reviews on retailer websites, it appears this GE top-loader is a true fan favorite.

The Deep Fill option lets you fill it with as much water as you want

We’re not surprised. When we first evaluated it in our test labs last year, we called GE’s new top-load machine “the great American washer.”

With a 4.6 cu. ft. capacity, it has plenty of room for a big load. And, most importantly, the Deep Fill option lets you fill it with as much water as you want. Our reviewers say it’s a perfect mix of new technology and old-school familiarity.

If you’re a true washing machine aficionado, you’ve probably scrolled down to the comments to tell us about Speed Queen washing machines. But unlike the cult classic Speed Queen, this GE has mass appeal. Our testers found that it gets clothes cleaner than any other top-load machine we’ve tested, and—as long as you skip the Deep Fill option—it’s more efficient that other top-load washers as well.

The biggest difference between the GTW680BSJWS and a Speed Queen, however, is price. While Speed Queen’s top-load machines boast industrial-grade design, they also start around $879. The GE costs just $539 on sale.
