Northstar, the 1940’s-retro brand of family-owned Elmira Stove Works, recently added a new, larger range to its lineup. In addition to the 30-inch 1954, 1955, and 1956 ranges, the 1947 is bigger and better—with six gas burners and a big self-cleaning convection oven. You can use it as a focal point for a kitchen, or match it with a Northstar retro refrigerator, microwave, or dishwasher panel.

We were especially impressed with the control panel, which hides a modern display behind a shiny, Art Deco centerpiece. Turn on the timer, and an LED display will appear seemingly out of nowhere. But when it’s not in use, the LEDs is nowhere to be seen.

The control panel is a retro marvel. For the right tastes, it looks great—though the chromed lettering may prove challenging to read under certain lighting.

While $6,995 might be a lot of money to spend on a home appliance, it helps to remember that all of Northstar’s products are custom assembled in its Elmira, Ontario factory. The range’s chassis comes from KitchenAid, which should help assuage any fears about buying a major appliance from a small company.
