In order to test oven evenness, we bake batches of cookies and cakes. Once the food is finished, we use a photospectrometer to measure color to compare how evenly each item is baked.
The Frigidaire FPEF3077QF oven proved particularly effective at baking. The cookies and cakes we baked using the standard setting showed very little difference between tops and bottoms. Unfortunately, the tops of the cookies and cakes had noticeable dark and light spots. The problem particularly affected those placed on the right of the oven cavity.
Cookies baked using the convection setting offered up pretty much the same positive results. However, the cakes baked using convection setting were noticeably more even than those baked using the standard bake setting.
The Frigidaire FPEF3077QF was very quick to preheat. The standard setting took 9 minutes and 58 seconds to reach 350°F. The convection setting took 8 minutes and 5 seconds to reach 350°F. The broiler was also fast: it took 4 minutes and 53 seconds to reach 607°F.
There are three types of burners: gas, electric, and induction. Each come with their own set of strengths and weakness. While electric burners offer a wider range of temperatures than gas, they are less responsive. The FPEF3077QF's burners achieved high heats in our tests, but the low temperatures were disappointing. We recorded a high temperature of 720°F from the left front burner, 686°F from the right front burner, 682°F from the right rear burner, and 465°F from the left rear burner. That's a good set of high temperatures overall—although 720°F is hotter than necessary.
We had high hopes for the low temperatures on offer, but we were left disappointed. We recorded a minimum of 141°F from the right front burner, 145°F from the left front burner, 146°F from the left rear burner, and 150°F from the right rear burner. While these temperatures are usable, they will make melting chocolate, or even achieving a low simmer, harder than necessary.
We test the boiling speeds of range tops by timing how long it takes each burner to bring six cups of water to a rolling boil. The front right burner was the most effective in this test. It took 6 minutes. The left rear burner took 9 minutes, the left front took 10 minutes, and the right rear took 12 minutes.
