Frigidaire Professional FPGF3077QF Gas Range Review
High-end looks at an affordable price

We ran the Frigidaire FPGF3077QF through a series of standardized tests. While the burners proved less than excellent, we walked away impressed with the oven's baking evenness and fast preheat.
The Frigidaire Professional FPGF3077QF gas range (MSRP $1,699) is part of the company's recently updated Professional line, inspired by restaurant kitchens. The FPGF3077QF trumpets some elements of high-end style, but—since it's based on a regular consumer range—costs just a fraction of the price of true pro-style models from the likes of Viking and Wolf..
Of course, no residential range will get as hot as what you'd find in an actual restaurant kitchen, but four out of five of this Frigidaire's gas burners didn't even get as hot as we'd hoped. It made up for that shortcoming with an impressive oven, with even baking and rapid preheats that should please any home chef.
If a sale price of around $1,289 is too much, check out the Frigidaire Gallery FGGF3032MF and the GE JGB697SEHSS. Neither range has the looks and features of the FPGF3077QF, but both perform basic cooking tasks just as well.
Oven & Broiler Performance
In order to test oven evenness, we bake batches of cookies and cakes. Once the food is finished, we use a photospectrometer to measure their exterior color to test for doneness, and then compare how evenly each item is baked.
The Frigidaire FPGF3077QF oven offered remarkably good oven evenness. The cookies and cakes we baked using the standard setting showed very little difference between tops and bottoms. Unfortunately, the tops of the cookies and cakes had noticeable dark and light spots.
Cookies baked using the convection setting had pretty much the same results. However, the cakes baked using convection setting were noticeably more even than those baked using the standard bake setting.
The Frigidaire FPEF3077QF was very quick to preheat. The standard setting took 10 minutes and to reach 350°F in both the standard and convection setting. The broiler took 9 minutes to reach 607°F.
Design & Usability
A rethinking of the professional aesthetic
The Professional series is inspired by the hard lines and thick handles found on commercial ranges. We think Frigidaire did a great job interpreting the look for a mass audience without simply copying the design of a more expensive range. Your neighbors won't mistake it for a Viking—but they will find it attractive on its own merits.
While we appreciated the Professional look on the electric FPEF3077QF, the aesthetic is even more appropriate for the gas model.
Burner controls are placed on the front of the unit—as is common with gas ranges—while the oven settings are adjusted by two dials on the backsplash. Between the two oven dials is a sleek digital display. An innovative timer allows you to set two separate countdowns for the oven and rangetop simultaneously. It's a great idea, diminished only by the almost inaudible beeps the timer emits at zero.
Frigidaire finished the FPGF3077QF in smudge-proof stainless steel. As advertised, the surface is indeed resistant to fingerprints and smears. Just beware it is slightly darker than regular stainless steel, so make sure the color matches your other appliances before committing.
The FPGF3077QF also features a two-hour self-clean mode, a temperature probe, and a storage drawer for extra pots and pans.
One great burner far outshines the others
The FPGF3077QF comes equipped with five gas burners of varying sizes and BTU strengths. The unit features a front right 18,000 BTU PowerPlus burner, a front left 9,500 BTU burner, rear right 5,000 BTU burner, rear left 12,000 BTU burner, and an oval 10,000 BTU burner at the center.
Gas burners cannot compete with electric and induction burners when comes to pure measurements of temperature range. However, gas offers a level of responsiveness not found in electric ranges, as well as the charm of real flames.
With this in mind, it's no surprise that the FPGF3077QF didn't wow us with extremes in our high and low heat tests. Still, we recorded a maximum temperature of 408°F and a minimum of 108°F—more than sufficient for searing a steak or simmering a sauce.
However, getting water to a rapid boil wasn't as easy. The front right PowerPlus burner boiled six cups of water in seven minutes, but all the others took more than ten. If you're making clams and linguine, you'll want to get your pasta started pretty early.
The FPGF3077QF's rangetop proved fairly uneven in our burner tests. We measured a maximum temperature of 401°F from the the front right burner and a maximum temperature of 408°f from the front left. Minimum temperatures were better with an average recorded temperature of 111°F.
Boiling performance was adequate, provided one is satisfied with only one solid boiling burner. The front right burner boiled six cups of water in seven minutes. The remaining burners were considerably less capable. We recorded boiling times between 15 and 20 minutes.
Oven, Broiler, & Convection
A treat for bakers
Happily, the FPGF3077QF's 5.6-cu.-ft. oven fared better than the rangetop. In fact, it may be one of the best gas ovens we've tested. Both the standard bake and convection bake settings proved equally adept at making delicious cookies and cakes, although the convection setting had a slight edge in our tests.
To test evenness we bake batches of cookies and cakes, then compare the level of doneness between each one. We're all for individuality, but not when it comes to baked goods—which should look the same regardless of where in the oven they were baked.
Cookies baked using this Frigidaire's standard setting were the only wobbly results from this otherwise steady oven. The cookies we baked using the convection setting were almost perfectly even, as were the cakes we baked using both settings.
While they're a bit of a mystery for some oven users, broilers are a great alternative to outdoor grilling or even frying, and they can add a bit of browning to food that needs it. When testing broilers we look for speed above all else, and the FPGF3077QF was ultimately pretty slow. It took nine minutes to reach 605°F. That's not a terrible result, but it's longer than we'd like. The actual oven preheat itself took 10 minutes in both standard and convection modes, which is about average.
The Frigidaire FPGF3077QF is covered by a one year limited warranty. This means any repairs or replacements required—and not the fault of the owner—will be paid for by Frigidaire. Rust damage is not included in the warranty.
Why We Like It
The FPQF3077QF isn't perfect, but it has a lot to offer.
The Frigidaire FPQF3077QF isn't quite the complete package, but it's still a worthwhile purchase. Good looks don't come cheap, though, and at a sale price of $1,289, the FPGF3077QF costs a bit more than the competition.
But you're not just paying for appearance. The Frigidaire FPGF3077QF also has excellent baking evenness and speedy preheat speeds. The only real reservation we have regarding this range is its lackluster set of burners.
Despite this, we'd still consider the Frigidaire FPGF3077QF a great choice for those looking for a solid oven, one great rangetop burner, and a beautiful centerpiece for an upscale kitchen.
