Pregnant people need their sleep, but it’s hard to come by when you’ve got a big ol’ bump growing from your midsection.

It’s difficult to get a good night's sleep while pregnant. You can’t sleep on your stomach, and after 20 weeks, you’re also not allowed to sleep on your back. And as a further nuisance, it’s preferred that you sleep on your left side only, to help with blood flow. All these rules get slightly easier with the extra support of the right pillow. I spent my first pregnancy sticking random throw pillows underneath my growing bump, so I was thrilled to look into all types of pregnancy pillows in the last—and most uncomfortable—stage of this pregnancy. In my experience, the comfiest, and most supportive pregnancy-shaped pillow was the Queen Rose U-Shape Full Body Pillow (available at Amazon) .

The recommendations in this guide are based on thorough product and market research by our team of expert product reviewers. The picks are based on examining user reviews, product specifications, and, in some limited cases, our experience with the specific products named.

Best Overall
Queen Rose Classic U Shaped Pregnancy Pillow

Finding the best pillow for me was truly a challenge. I’m a light sleeper as is, and the constant aches and pains from my growing bump made it worse. The full-body and U-shaped Queen Rose pregnancy pillow did the best to provide both belly support and head support, but it was also a fantastic comfort on my back. My head felt like it was on a regular pillow, which helped me sleep soundly. It was also easy for me to shift my side sleeping position from my left to my right and still feel supported in all the right areas. I seriously even gave it a hug while I slept.

It was also great to prop up and sit in bed with, as this pregnancy pillow is designed to support the neck and arms when used against a headboard.
Lastly, of the full pregnancy body pillows, the machine-washable pillowcase on Queen Rose was the easiest to remove and put back on. The last thing you want to think about when you’re trying to work around your body is how you’re going to keep a pillow clean. This one made cleaning a breeze.

Pros

  • Head and belly support

  • Comfortable for your back

  • Easy to adjust

Cons

  • None that we could find

Most Versatile
Boppy Side Sleeper Pregnancy Pillow

This pillow gets props for being, by far, the most interestingly shaped pregnancy pillow: It’s basically two balls of pillow connected by a piece of fabric. The versatility of this Boppy pillow was fantastic. It was easy to move from one location to another. You can use it for your back/belly while sleeping on your side, or for your legs, your arms while lounging on a couch, neck support, or as a pillow under your head.

Cleaning was easy as well. For me, the downside was not having the full body support like you get from a total body pillow, and the shape may be awkward for some other people.

Pros

  • Versatile

  • Easy to move around with

  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • Lacks full-body support

PharmMeDoc Pregnancy Pillow U-Shape Full Body Pillow

The PharMeDoc was just the right amount of squishy for comfort. While the pillow itself is full body and therefore cumbersome to move, the C-shape made it versatile in terms of using it in other locations of my house. It was comfortable on the couch as neck support.

However, it was most comfortable in a total body U-shape. The C-shape is best used in the fetal position, which made me feel stiff overnight more quickly than being able to stretch out some in a U-shape.

Pros

  • Especially comfortable

  • Perfect for bedtime

Cons

  • None that we could find

ComfySure Full Body Pregnancy Pillow

Whereas the PharMeDoc was great in terms of how cushiony it was, the Comfysure C-shape actually cradled me best. Again, with the C-shape, was most supportive if my knees were bent into a fetal position, but it did actually make me feel like a lil baby.

Same as the PharMeDoc, the C-shape is much more versatile in other areas of the house than the U-shape full pregnancy body pillows.

Pros

  • Lots of cushion

  • Versatile

  • Excellent support

Boppy Pregnancy Wedge

This is one of those things that people seem to love, but it didn’t work for me.

The firmness, shape, and overall feel of the Boppy wedge pillow were great. It also offered some minor back support while lounging. Throughout the night, however, it kept moving, making sleep more frustrating. Additionally, when placed under my very pregnant belly, it pushed up in a way that hurt more than supported.

Pros

  • Great firmness and feel

  • Appealing shape

Cons

  • Easy to lose while asleep

What to Consider When Buying a Pregnancy Pillow

Room In Your Bed

Full-body pregnancy pillows can make you feel cozy and supported but they will most definitely feel like having a whole other person in bed. If you share your bed with a partner, know that a full-body pillow with a big shape and size will be an instant barrier between you and them. But hey, maybe this is a plus!

How Hot You Get

I’m perpetually cold. However, there are plenty of people on the opposite side of that spectrum, especially when growing another human being. Full-body pillows will up the heat under the covers, and not in a metaphorical way.

Where It Hurts

Some people are natural side sleepers so the pregnancy may only affect one portion of their body. In that case, a total body pillow may be unnecessary. A smaller model would target the areas you specifically need without taking up space on the bed. Back and stomach sleepers, who are having to make a huge adjustment, will probably appreciate the support that a full-body pillow provides.
