In the days following your child’s arrival, a baby bassinet is the best and safest place for them to nap and sleep. Even though you and your baby won’t be sleeping much, you’ll be close to one another, which is one of the safe sleep recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Starting your baby’s fourth trimester in the same room where you do feedings and diaper changes makes nighttime check-ins simple and easy.

While every parent’s situation, space, and baby will be different, we feel confident that the Guava Family Lotus Bassinet (available at Guava Family) is the best bassinet on the market. We love that this bassinet can double as a pack-and-play and that it folds up small enough to fit into a backpack for traveling. The Chicco LullaGo (available at Amazon) is a great budget pick that doesn’t sacrifice on safety or portability—and costs less than half the price of our top pick.

Here are the best baby bassinets available online right now.

Best Overall
Guava Lotus Bassinet Kit + Crib Bundle

There’s a lot to love about the Guava Family Lotus Bassinet. Not only is the Lotus great at being a bassinet, but it can transform into a pack and play as well. While it’s on the expensive side, if you add up the price of buying a high-quality baby bassinet plus a separate play yard, the Guava Family Lotus makes a sweet package deal.

In addition, the Lotus has the best and most compact fold of any product we tested. Did we mention that it folds up into a backpack—which is also included? While portability isn’t important to everyone (and not all bassinets we tested even had a way to fold-up) the compact design is easy to move and great for traveling with your newborn or your toddler—or even just for setting up in the living room. It’s also quite convenient for when it’s not in use, as it makes storing it especially easy in even the smallest apartments.

Pros

  • Can transform into a pack and play

  • Compact

Cons

  • Expensive

Chicco LullaGo Anywhere Portable Bassinet

The Chicco LullaGo is an excellent budget-friendly option. While you won’t have the high-end features like Oeko-tex breathable mesh side panels, vibrational motion or sounds, it does pack up well and it comes standard with a lot of extras.

We liked that every piece of the LullaGo is machine washable and that it can be folded and tossed into a carry bag when needed. If you’re looking for a travel crib that’s less expensive, or even as a secondary option, this model is a great choice. With that in mind, if you’re looking to maximize space, an all-in-one bassinet and pack and play like the Lotus may be a better option.

Other Bassinets We Tested

Product image of TruBliss Evi Smart Bassinet
TruBliss Evi Smart Bassinet

The TruBliss Evi Smart Bassinet is a great option for parents looking for something that allows hands-free operation, is aesthetically pleasing, and easy to use.

The product comes with three functions—sound, rocking, and light—that can be controlled by Alexa or Google Home, or via the Smart Life App. I like that I can operate it completely hands-free, or, if I don’t want to make any noise, I can use my phone. The app also controls the other smart devices in our house—no need for an additional app to find and open when operating on a sleep-deprived brain.

The sound feature has three noise options: white noise, a heartbeat, and nursery music. The gentle rocking motion soothes a baby that is accustomed to motion from being in the womb, and the light gives off the perfect amount of glow for late-night feeds or gentle waking.

The TruBliss has a slightly larger footprint than some other bassinets, but provides a bigger sleeping space. This is key if you plan to follow the AAP guidance of room sharing for six months to a year. The TruBliss Evi is not easily portable. In our case that wasn’t an issue. We used this as a bedside sleeper, with no need to move it.

The basket underneath is great for storing extra swaddles, burp cloths, changing supplies, extra clothes, and even a breast pump. This model essentially provides an extra set of hands to hold all the baby gear you need.

There are a few downsides. The timer has a maximum of one hour, and you have to cycle through the sound options each time you use it. However, both of these complaints are fairly minor.

Overall, this is a great option for parents who are looking for a high-tech bassinet without the price tag quite of The Snoo.

Pros

  • Smart home compatible

  • Functional design

  • Generous size

Cons

  • Expensive

  • Not portable

Product image of 4moms mamaRoo Sleep Bassinet
4moms mamaRoo Sleep Bassinet

The 4Moms mamaRoo Sleep Bassinet gives parents who like high-tech, app-integrated bassinet features an alternative to the Snoo. It’s an expensive option but a fraction of the price of the Snoo.

We liked that the bassinet offered vibration, but that it includes the option for varied motions, similar to the brand’s popular baby swing. Given that it’s common for babies to fall asleep on mom and dad and wake when placed on a sleep surface, it’s super helpful to be able to set the bassinet into gentle motion to keep the infant sleeping.

Overall, the footprint is pretty small, and we liked that the bassinet can extend up to 39” high. The app and bassinet took a few minutes to set up, but overall it was a simple task, and the interfaces are simple and easy to use. For those who don’t need the portability afforded by our top pick, this is a great option.

  • Easy to set up

  • Affordable

Product image of Happiest Baby Snoo Smart Sleeper
Happiest Baby Snoo Smart Sleeper

Invented by Dr. Harvey Karp of The Happiest Baby on the Block fame, The Snoo has been a top choice for parents since it was released three years ago.

While it’s an excellent and sturdy product, it comes with the biggest price tag of any model we tested. You could buy all three of our top picks for less than one Snoo. We’ll admit, the phone connectivity, built-in white noise, and sleek design may make new parents swoon, but there are better options at better price points available.

The Snoo has the same general lifespan as the other models we tested, and it doesn’t offer the portability or future functionality that we saw in our top picks. Like the Halo Bassinest, it’s quite heavy and large compared to the folding models we tested.

Pros

  • Sturdy

Cons

  • Expensive

  • Large and unwieldy

Product image of Moba Basket + Stand
Moba Basket + Stand

Moba is a British brand that has created a 100% recyclable, TPE (a medical-grade rubber polymer) bassinet that has a 3D-printed look to it. It has 300 holes for airflow and breathability, a polypropylene mattress, and the outer material is all wipeable. The mattress cover and fabrics are all cotton, and we liked the unique style and design.

While not inexpensive, the Moba still compares well to the other top picks, but it lacks some of the basics. The stand—sold separately for $75—is unique in that it can gently rock the bassinet back and forth, or keep it still. As with many new products, we’re always interested in seeing how it holds up over time, but Moba is definitely a brand to watch.

  • Made of recyclable material

  • Unique design

Cons

  • None we can find

Product image of Arm's Reach Clear-Vue Co-Sleeper
Arm's Reach Clear-Vue Co-Sleeper

Arm’s Reach is aptly named—their products are designed to keep your newborn within arm’s reach—while following all of the latest safe sleep guidelines. With a vast product catalog, we chose the Vue, one of their most popular models, to test out. This doubles as a co-sleeper for parents who prefer to bed share, or as a bassinet. Unfortunately, it didn’t do either that well, and it lacked the security and stability of other models.

We gave it low marks for the caliber of fabrics, sturdiness, and build quality. We never felt that it was as secure as the other models, and while it gets the job done, it doesn’t offer the same aesthetic properties that other models we tested did.

Pros

  • Doubles as a co-sleeper

Cons

  • Lacks security and stability

Product image of MiClassic 2 in 1 Bassinet
MiClassic 2 in 1 Bassinet

The MiClassic received the lowest marks of the bassinets we tested. For starters, we never felt like it was fully open when we unfolded it. There always seemed to be a dip in the middle of the mattress, which we felt could cause a baby to roll or slide.

While inexpensive, it didn’t have the sturdy feel of other models, and the quality of the fabric and materials was low as well.

Pros

  • Inexpensive

Cons

  • Not sturdy

  • Low quality material

How We Tested Bassinets

The Tester

Hi, I'm Katie Reising. I'm a new mom to a 5-month-old baby girl, as well as a Forensic Scientist. In our most recent round of testing, my daughter and I evaluated the new Bliss Evi Smart Bassinet. This guide was first written by Matthew DeLauder, whose bio follows.

Hi, I'm Matthew DeLauder. I spent 10 years working in the juvenile product industry in a retail setting, where I was able to see how new and innovative products can really make a difference in parents' lives. My experience with these products not only prepared me to write about them, but also to use them as a parent with a newborn at home.

The Tests

Even though as parents we have different spaces, wants, and needs, we’re all looking for the same basic criteria when buying a bassinet. In researching the category, we started by selecting best-selling and highly-rated bassinets. We also looked at some of the newer options that had unique features and designs.

We tested each product and asked participants to fill out a questionnaire on their experiences. After each one was handed in, we calculated the scores and found our winner. We focused on stability, how easy these were to set up, and how well they folded and adjusted for different situations. We added a few more questions to our tests, including how our testers felt about the fabrics and materials, and if there were any special features that stood out.

What to Consider When Selecting a Bassinet

It Should Fit Your Budget

Like most other baby products, you can spend as much as you want, but that doesn’t guarantee better performance—or extra sleep in the middle of the night.

Consider the Features

Your bassinet should have an elevated sleeping position that makes it easy to get your baby in and out of and a firm mattress with plenty of support. Lastly, it should be utilitarian in its design. Avoid frilly canopies and padded sides, as these can ultimately become a hazard for your child as they start to roll over and pull up. Special features like fold, adjustable height, and vibration are great extras—so long as they work.

Is it Easy (and Affordable) to Buy Accessories?

All of the options we tested had optional extra sheets, and most had waterproof pads you could buy. It’s best to stick with the manufacturer’s options, which may be pricier, but you’ll know that they will fit.
