LG LFXS28566M French door refrigerator review

The LG LFXS28566M can help you achieve your style goal and much more: it’s a door-in-door model that lets you press a button on the handle to retrieve your most-used items. That might include bottles of ketchup and salad dressing, yogurt cups, coffee cream, soft drinks—whatever your favorites are. Gallon containers fit, too, so you can keep plenty milk and orange juice there.

But the best part: not only does the door-in-door make foods and beverages easy to grab, it actually saves energy by keeping the cold air inside the rest of the fridge. Big win!

Design and features

The model in our labs rocks LG’s contemporary Matte Black Stainless finish, one of the real standouts in the realm of black stainless steel. If you’d like your kitchen to stay standard silvery stainless, this fridge comes in that color ((LG LFXS28566S), too, for about $200 less. And if you’d like a dark finish with a little shine, a regular black stainless model (LG LFXS28566D) is available for about $200 more. No matter which finish you pick, the doors resist fingerprints, so you won't be wiping smudges off them constantly.

We admired the interior of this fridge, even beyond the clever door-in-door design. The separate temperature controls for the deli drawer, crispers that slide very smoothly, a pull-out handle bar for the freezer, and the ice maker built inside the left door all work well. It's easy to access items on the shelves, and the retractible shelf is super when you need room for tall containers.

The freezer shelf also slides easily and the removable ice tray is smart, since it allows additional space to store ice. This fridge was designed to maximize space, which is why the ice maker is built into the left door.

However, the bins on the left door lose capacity due to the ice maker, and the drawers aren't deep enough to entirely utilize the space. The freezer gives up space to the ice container. It's removable, but you probably wouldn't want to take it out.

Performance

This refrigerator held its temperature very well, however during testing, the temp hovered around 40°. That's considered safe, but we prefer to see average temperatures closer to 37°. If you buy this model, we’d advise turning the refrigerator temperature down a bit. Once you've done that, you can check it with a refrigerator thermometer.

We found the freezer temperature to be very consistent, averaging an excellent -3°. The freezer also excelled in the quick chill, taking only an hour and 13 minutes to get our frozen food to the 32° mark.

We expect a refrigerator to keep our produce fresh. This one disappoints in that area. Although they slide easily, the crisper drawers are designed in a way that allows moisture to escape. That may not bother you if you turn over fruits and veggies quickly in your household.

This fridge is efficient enough to run–with an estimated energy cost of $44 per year, it's about average.
