Why else do we like it? It keeps temperatures safe and steady, uses space well, and has a brilliant LED lighting scheme.

The fresh food compartment of the LG LSXS26366S is very well lit, and the LED lights are recessed, so they don't cut into food storage space. The door-in-door compartment is perfect for condiments, drinks, and snacks. And it prevents cold air from leaving the main refrigerator compartment.

The fridge isn’t perfect—its two crisper drawers don’t retain humidity. Still, the LG LSXS26366S is one of the best side-by-sides we’ve ever tested.

Design and Features

The three doors and shiny stainless steel finish give this refrigerator a contemporary look. It's a stylish alternative to a French door fridge for people who prefer to keep more of their food at eye level. Although at first glance, it doesn't look like a big refrigerator, this model is 36 inches wide and 36 inches deep, just over 70 inches tall, so measure your space to make sure your kitchen has room for it.

The idea of a door-in-door fridge is to keep chilled air trapped inside the main compartment, while providing organization and access to favorite foods in the generous door bins. It’s simple to open the door-in-door by pressing and holding the button on the handle. If you leave it open, the main door closes automatically, and a door alarm serves as backup.

The door-in-door feature allows the family to grab snacks and drinks without letting cold air out of the main refrigerator compartment. To open just the door-in-door, press and hold the button on the handle.

LED lights are recessed at the top of each compartment, so they brighten up the interior without intruding into storage space. The glass shelves are attractive and easy to rearrange, say, to accommodate large frozen pizzas. The shelves go all the way across each compartment, so they don't waste space. They're not spillproof, but it’s no trouble to take them out for clean-up.

Side-by-side fridges were the first models to rock through-the-door ice, and this icemaker is located within the freezer door, so it frees up space on the left side. During our tests, we appreciated the ease with which we could fill a tall water bottle from the dispenser. The control panel below it is clear and easy to understand.

Performance

During our tests, the temperature in the fresh food compartment was appropriately chilly and very consistent, deviating no more than 0.2°, with an average temp of 38°. That's good—a fridge temperature under 40° keeps food safe.

The freezer stayed really cold as well, deviating only 0.4°, and averaging -1.8° throughout the testing period. You won't have to worry about freezer burn with this model. We timed the interval for the freezer to reach 32° at 53 minutes.

Crisper drawers are supposed to stay more humid than the rest of the fridge, and these don’t. That’s okay for fruit, not as good for vegetables. If you don’t buy a lot produce, you could use one of the two drawers to keep deli meats and cheeses.

Since the two crisper drawers don't hold in humidity well, don't buy more produce than you can use in a short period of time.

We estimate that the energy to run this refrigerator would cost approximately $40 a year.

Warranty

LG offers a warranty that includes one year on parts and labor, five years on the sealed system, five years on the compressor, and six to ten years on linear compressor parts.

What the users say about it

The majority of people who purchased this fridge recommend it highly, giving it an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. Some owners say they never thought they’d want a side-by-side until they saw this one. The negative comments we saw had to do with the icemaker—not that it doesn't work, but that it doesn’t produce a lot of ice. However, its smaller size leaves more space on the freezer side.

The Bottom Line

The LG LSXS26366S’s three door design is uniqe without being flashy. It’s sure to up a kitchen’s style quotient, while keeping the food cold and fresh.

Side-by-side refrigerators keep more food at eye level, and the multiple door-in-door bins on the fridge side provide a convenient place to load snacks and drinks. Although the $1600 price point may not seem like a bargain, we find this fridge to be a good value, considering its excellent functionality, and all the amenities it brings to the table.
