Pros

  • Fingerprint-resistant stainless steel

  • Great fridge temperature

  • Has kid friendly features

Cons

  • Inconsistent freezer temperature

The exterior resists fingerprints. There is no water dispenser, so no chance for puddles on the kitchen floor. Finally, a child-height pantry drawer can dispense after-school snacks without a need for a step stool. While the freezer's food preservation skills need improvement, the price is spot-on for what this fridge offers.

What they never tell you in the store is that the storage space listed on the advertisements don't take the shelves into account. So while Kenmore says the 73025 has 26 cubic feet of storage, you can really only fit 16 cubic feet worth of stuff in there. However, those bulky shelves will serve you well. They are made of attractive tempered glass, and the thick spill captures around them will keep messes contained.

Larger families will appreciate the fact that this fridge comes with two gallon bins, so the dairy and almond milk drinkers in your family won't have to fight for space.

The only design flaw we found was in the freezer. With a sloped bottom and a drawer, the freeze felt cramped. Our measurements showed that it can only hold about 3.6 cubic feet.

We think the pantry drawer can serve the whole family.

We think the pantry drawer can serve the whole family.

As we put the 73025 through its paces, we discovered a kid friendly fridge.

Fingerprint resistant: The exterior stainless steel is extremely easy to clean. A damp cloth got rid of even grease-covered handprints. Plus, you can still use magnets to hang pictures!

No water dispenser: Although they are convenient, a major source of fridge-related messes come from water dispensers. In most places, drinking from the tap is good enough.

Pantry drawer: While it's designed to hold pizzas and deli platters, we see the pantry drawer as a snack dispenser for young children. It's easy to open and it's the right height.

The fridge proved itself to be consistent.

The fridge proved itself to be consistent.

Performance will always be king in our appliance labs. With refrigeration, it's all about temperature and consistency. Our sensors showed that the 73025's fridge section passed muster, maintaining a 37°F temperature. The freezer was a little more temperamental. We recorded a six degree difference between the top and bottom. The area near the ice maker averaged around -3°F, while the lower drawers stayed around +3°F. Such an internal inconsistency shows a lack of proper airflow.

Our take

Households that go through a lot of refrigerated, but not frozen food will like this fridge. Extensive lab testing shows that the upper section is above average when it comes to temperature and consistency. When you combine that with all the kid friendly features, you get a good buy for a $1,300 French door fridge.
