Neato has announced an update for its WiFi-enabled Botvac Connected robot vacuum, making it compatible with smartwatches. You'll be able to start and stop the vacuum, as well as get notifications about its cleaning cycles right on your Apple Watch or Android Wear smartwatch.
Our only disappointment in this announcement is that you won't be able to drive the robot with your smartwatch like you can with your smartphone.
This move comes hot on the heels of a report that smartwatches actually outsold Swiss watches in Q4 2015. By getting out in front of growing smartwatch adoption, Neato is poised to a attract more tech-savvy consumers–a demographic they sorely need in order to compete with industry-leader iRobot.
If you're worried about smartwatch compatibility being style over substance, don't be. After testing several Neato robot vacuums, such as the Botvac 80, we found that they are solid machines. Their unique D shape and brush placements allow the Botvac to clean corners and edges. When you combine that with the ability to go from bare floors to high-pile carpet, you get a powerful tool in the war against dust bunnies.
