Canon announced today a handful of additions to its vast lineup of PowerShot compact cameras: the SX600 HS, the ELPH 340 HS, and the new N100 concept camera.

The new cameras are mostly focused on enhancing the user's ability to create, enjoy, and share their photos rather than on pure performance. That's not to say they take poor photos, but you shouldn't expect to be wowed by the specs on display here.

These PowerShots will be the first with NFC capability; users can just tap an NFC-enabled Android device to the camera to quickly transfer images.

All three cameras will be able to connect to compatible smartphones, tablets, or computers via WiFi. These PowerShots will also be the first with NFC (near field communication) capability. Users can just tap an NFC-enabled Android device to the camera to quickly transfer images.

Creative Shot mode is another new addition. This mode automatically crops, rotates, and adds digital filters to photos to get interesting results—something Instagram users should enjoy. If you want to get a bit more hands-on, there are a total of 46 filters to play with. For that matter, these cameras are definitely more "play" than "work," which seems to be Canon's goal.
