When we cover Android devices, we often point out that there are a number of applications and utilities that exist to replace stock features if you don't like them for any reason, and for today only, a very popular keyboard is on sale for $1.99 in the Google Play Store. SwiftKey 3 is a rather interesting keyboard that allows you a bit smarter autocorrect suggestions than what's currently available in regular ol' Android. Let's explore, shall we?

What works well with SwiftKey 3

Customization is king with SwiftKey 3, as you can change your themes, key height, correction parameters, and track correction statistics. If you're worried about losing the ability to chat in several different languages, don't be! There are language packs readily available if you open the utility (disguised as an app) for download, though there doesn't appear to be support for pinyin (Chinese) input for SMS messages. If you're tired of your vanilla Android keyboard, Swiftkey 3 is a good place to start.

What doesn't work so well with Swiftkey 3

When you first enable SwiftKey 3, operation of the utility to set up your keyboard assumes some knowledge of your operating system's finer points, like enabling input methods etc. While this is easy for some, for the uninitiated it can seem a bit perplexing and a little unsettling when you are greeted with a prompt that what you type (messages, credit card numbers, etc) can be stored or are otherwise less secure. If at any point you believe that this is a real concern, you can either install a malware app, or you can uninstall the software, but it's nice to know ahead of time that this is a potential security risk.

Worth the download?

That all depends on whether or not you're satisfied with your current keyboard. If you're not liable to use an autocorrect function, or think too much about your typing statistics, or even if you are just turned off by the potential security risk, SwiftKey 3 may not be for you. There are other keyboards out there as well, which we may explore in the near future for you to try.

If, however, you like the prospect of changing your keyboard around to exactly how you want it, would rather your autocorrect functions differently, or even if you're curious about correction statistics, this is a great way to acquire this ability with very little effort or cost. While the sale will end, there are far more expensive apps out there, and SwiftKey 3 is at least worth a shot if you've ever been curious as to how you can change your Android experience to fit your personal tastes.

SwiftKey 3 is available only in Google's Play Store.
