Finding a reliable pair of headphones to walk, run, and exercise with can feel like running up a treadmill with a steep incline. An ideal pair for the gym would be feature wireless functionality, great sound, a comfortable, secure fit, and a dependable battery—not exactly an easy criteria to meet.
That's why we were kind of blown away last year when we got our hands on the Powerbeats 3: a pair of in-ears that checks off every box for active people in search of headphones. Right now, Amazon is selling them for $149.99—a total of $50 off their usual price.
Let's run through that checklist one more time:
Are they wireless?
You bet. The Powerbeats 3 feature a class 1 Bluetooth chip—supposedly 10x stronger than the ever-popular class 2 chip. Plus, the chip is compatible with Apple's W1 wireless chip, making it easy as pie to connect to your iPhone (and if you have an Android, you'll still get the benefits of the class 1 chip's insane range).
Do they sound good?
Sound good? They're among the best in-ears we've ever tested. With a proper fit, these in-ears offer a rich, clear sound with Beats' signature low-end oomph. The bass is heavy (but not too heavy) and there's hardly any distortion to speak of.
Do they fit comfortably and securely?
Once you choose the right pair of tips for your ears, the Powerbeats' ear hook design keeps the buds firmly and comfortably in your ears. Now you're ready for the gym.
How's the battery?
The battery is stellar. You can squeeze around 12 hours out of a full charge, and if you happen to find yourself in a pinch before a quick run, the Powerbeats can provide up to an hour of playback after just 5 minutes of charge-time.
It's pretty clear why we gave these in-ears both our Editors' Choice award and our Best of Year award. Now, at just $149.99, the Powebeats 3 have never been cheaper on Amazon.
Summer's almost here—this one's kind of a no-brainer.
