The internet is obsessing over Allbirds sneakers — are they worth it?

With over 1 million pairs sold to date, Allbirds are $95 wool shoes that claim to be machine washable and are supposedly better without socks. After putting our own allbirds through the ringer, we're here to tell you if these instagram-famous sneakers are truly worth the money.

What makes Allbirds different?

Allbirds are environmentally-friendly shoes—that also happen to be stylish and outrageously comfortable. They're made from merino wool and new sole material called SweetFoam, derived from Brazilian sugarcane.

You can go sock free

Because the merino wool construction, these shoes are actually moisture-wicking and anti-bacterial.

You can wear them
year-round

These shoes are very versatile in the cold winters and surprisingly breathable in summer—despite being made of wool.

Washing-machine friendly

You can just toss them into the washing machine. This is a huge benefit to keeping your kicks looking fresh. Just be sure to use cold water on a wool or delicates cycle!

DOWNSIDES: Rain on your parade

While it won’t ruin them, Allbirds are by no means waterproof, and wearing wet and heavy wool shoes isn’t exactly great.

DOWNSIDES: not great for the gym

While they can certainly withstand long walks, they’re not meant for intense workouts. They’re too warm for strenuous exercise and aren’t designed for long runs.

Are Allbirds worth it?

All wool shoes are cozy and soft, but Allbirds are the lightest I’ve tried, and have a uniquely supportive sole. So if you’re in search of your next great shoe obsession, Allbirds might be right for you.
