Great for lighter coverage in the summer, tinted moisturizer is one of my favorite beauty items to keep in my makeup bag. While some tinted moisturizers can be buildable, most people look for a nice lightweight feeling that fits their skin tone without adding too much to their natural complexion, and finding the right formula can be hard. After researching tons of different tinted moisturizers and reading through thousands of user reviews, we compiled a list of the best tinted moisturizers for any skin type and tone.

Editor's Note

The recommendations in this guide are based on thorough product and market research by our team of expert product reviewers. The picks are based on examining user reviews, product specifications, and, in some limited cases, our experience with the specific products named.

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint

The Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint is one of the most inclusive tinted moisturizers, and offers a lot of shades for every skin tone. This tinted moisturizer gives a light, dewy coverage and is perfect for those looking for a natural-looking finish. The Super Serum is vegan, cruelty-free, and safe for sensitive skin since it’s fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog up your pores. Included in the formula are niacinamide to help smooth skin texture and hyaluronic acid to help replenish moisture levels.

Because of the light coverage, this tinted moisturizer works well on all types of skin and is a hit among those with more mature skin. While there’s no included fragrance, the formula doesn’t smell great, and the applicator is a little sloppy, but this seems worth it for the end result. Those with very dry skin recommend moisturizing well before application for better results.

Pros

  • Inclusive shades

  • Light and dewy finish

  • Good for mature skin

Cons

  • Doesn’t smell great

  • Expensive

Product image of Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue
Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue

Complexion Rescue from Bare Minerals includes SPF 30 in its light coverage. This tinted moisturizer is many people’s “go-to summer foundation,” and while it isn’t a buildable foundation it is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, and formulated without oil for those who prefer a lighter formula.

This product is also vegan and formulated without gluten, synthetic fragrance, or PEGs, so you can apply it without worry if you’re into more natural skincare options. This is another tinted moisturizer that works well on mature skin and doesn’t look cakey or linger in pores.

Pros

  • Lightweight coverage

  • Good for mature skin

Cons

  • Not a buildable foundation

Product image of NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer
NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

With lots of color tones to choose from, the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is an oil-based formula, and a little bit goes a long way. This is a great tinted moisturizer for those who like a little more coverage, and is buildable for day-to-night wear. SPF 30 protects your skin from the sun’s harmful rays for nice all-day wear. This tinted moisturizer gives a nice smooth finish, but it is a bit heavier than others, and might not be the best for those with dry skin due to giving less moisture.

What’s great about this option from NARS is that it’s super easy to apply, so if you’re new to tinted moisturizer or you don’t wear makeup often, it’s pretty foolproof in its application.

Pros

  • Buildable day-to-night wear

  • A little goes a long way

  • Foolproof application

Cons

  • Thicker than others

  • Not for super dry skin

Product image of Revision Skincare Intellishade
Revision Skincare Intellishade

A bit more expensive than some other options, Revision Skincare’s Intellishade has a high SPF at 45, protecting skin from UVA/UVB radiation with ease. Light-diffusing minerals and a sheer tint blurs imperfections and gives a nice, sheer touch of color. This tinted moisturizer is meant to enhance your skin’s natural moisture barrier, leaving skin soft and smooth, and the fragrance-free formula gives a nice glowy finish. People who love Intellishade say that it’s a must-have when leaving the house, and especially like that it has a light formula and doesn’t feel cakey on their face.

Pros

  • Higher SPF than others

  • Glowy finish

Cons

  • Expensive

Product image of Purlisse Perfect Glow BB Cream SPF 30
Purlisse Perfect Glow BB Cream SPF 30

Purlisse’s Perfect Glow BB Cream offers medium coverage with its formula, boasting SPF 30 protection and antioxidants like soothing chamomile and artemisia for anti-aging effects. Paraben free, this tinted moisturizer is said to stay on all day without issue, and it has a pretty thick consistency. Unfortunately, this tinted moisturizer isn’t available in a lot of darker shades, so it’s less inclusive than other options.

Pros

  • Medium coverage

  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Lacks darker tone options
