Depending on what event you’re going to or who you’ll see there, you may swap out one perfume for another scent that matches how you want to feel that day. We all want bespoke things, and what better than to have your own custom fragrance that you can tweak based on your mood? Ninu, a smart perfume, plans to allow you to do just that via a phone app.

Ninu plans to use three different scent families for women and an additional three for men.

Ninu debuted at CES 2021 with a bold claim: “If Apple would present perfume on CES 2021, it would look like this.” Immediately, we were intrigued—how can a perfume be “smart?”

Still in the beginning phase of its creation, Ninu’s cylindrical dispenser aims to utilize perfume scents from three different fragrance families, with an app that uses AI (artificial intelligence) to help you mix your own unique scents. The plan is to release versions designed to appeal to women (using scent families “fresh,” “floral,” and “orential”) and to men (fragrance families not yet decided).

Eventually, the creators aim to offer up to a million different scent combinations, giving you the ability to add even the smallest fraction of one scent family into the mix to subtly change the fragrance outcome. The Ninu app will also allow you to record how you felt wearing a certain scent, as scent can boost your mood and affect your stress levels.

When will Ninu be available?

You can control the scent of your perfume using a companion app.

The company will launch a Kickstarter campaign in March 2021 to use crowdsourcing to put the unit into production. From there, the brand hopes to launch Ninu in late 2021 for an approximate cost of $199.
