Olympus Profit Grows 25 Percent

May 14, 2007* – Olympus last week announced its yearly financial results. Profits grew 25 percent,  rising from 358.2 billion yen ($2.97 billion USD) last year to 450.2 billion yen ($3.74 billion) this year.

According to Olympus’s consolidated results for the fiscal year ending March 31, total digital camera sales grew 17 percent from 228.8 billion yen ($1.9 billion) up to 269.2 billion yen ($2.23 billion) this year. With two new DSLRs announced this year, Olympus anticipates its digital camera sales will grow another 14 percent in the next fiscal year.

Olympus also reported strong sales in their medical equipment and information divisions.
