November 4, 2005 - It seems that Sanyo is making strides towards being an environmentally friendly company. This month the Japanese electronics maker will begin selling NiMH rechargeable batteries that can be used immediately after purchase, be recycled once fully used up, and exhibit no memory effect—even after thousands of recharges, according to Sanyo.

The new batteries are dubbed "eneloop"-- a combination of energy and loop perhaps, supposedly in reference to their many potential cycles of recharge and discharge.

Sanyo is setting up recycling centers for eneloop batteries at electronics retailers in preparation.
