What is Victoria Day?
Victoria Day, or Fête de la Reine, falls on the last Monday before the 25th of May. The day celebrates the birthday of Queen Victoria and is a federal Canadian public holiday that is observed in most parts of the country. Despite the royal connection, Victoria Day is a uniquely Canadian holiday and is not observed in the United Kingdom or in any other commonwealth countries.
Victoria Day coincides with the end of the cooler months and the start of summer and the frost-free gardening season. Victoria Day is a perfect time to stock up on outdoor furniture, gardening supplies, and camping gear as multiple Canadian retailers mark the long weekend with various sales and events.
