Introduction

As imperial bodyguard-turn-assassin Corvo Atano, you roam the world seeking revenge and using your supernatural powers to kill bad guys in an utterly badass fashion. We were most impressed by the sheer number of ways you can infiltrate different areas and accomplish objectives. Like Hitman, you can opt for either a horrific slaughter of everyone in your path or a sneaky, more discerning path with the fewest possible casualties.

Unlike Hitman, however, the sheer number of options at your disposal is astounding, thanks to the steampunk fantasy twist that allows you to possess animals and other people, teleport at the blink of an eye, or shove your target over a balcony with a well-timed gust of air. And that, of course, says nothing about the impressive arsenal of more earthly weapons Corvo can utilize.

Impressively, Dishonored is also an open-world game, where the player is free to truly explore the world and tackle objectives in a variety of ways and, at times, in his/her chosen order. We were glad to see the player granted so much freedom, given the rich environments and impressive artistic design of the game.

We think Arkane (and publisher Bethesda) have a winner on their hands. Hear more about our time with the game in the video below or stay tuned for our inevitable full review of the game this fall. Dishonored is due in North America October 9th on 360, PS3, and PC.
