Spooky season does not officially start until you spot The Home Depot Skelly in the wild. But here’s the other half: By the time you see him, he might already be sold out!
By “he,” we mean the 12-foot giant skeleton that’s been a Halloween phenomenon since 2020. Having him in your yard has become a competition of sorts, because he’s known to sell out within days of hitting physical and virtual shelves.
To make things even more haunting, for 2026, The Home Depot has upgraded Skelly with blinking, moving eyes and app-controlled features. And, they’ve added four new animatronics to their Halloween lineup.
Why The Home Depot Skelly keeps selling out
The original Home Depot giant skeleton created the large-scale outdoor Halloween decoration category almost singlehandedly. Standing 12 feet tall and visible from down the block, it turned front yards into haunted attractions overnight.
The 2026 version builds on that with LifeEyes LCD eyes that cycle through 20 different expressions and, for the first time, app-controlled voice modulation that lets owners customize what Skelly says.
The Home Depot Skelly returns for 2026 with 20 LCD LifeEyes expressions and app-controlled voice modulation. The 12-foot skeleton is outdoor rated and has sold out every year since 2020.
New in The Home Depot's 2026 Halloween lineup
Skelly may be the headliner, but The Home Depot's Halloween 2026 collection introduces four new outdoor animatronics across the Grave & Bones and Wicked Woods themed lines. If you already own Skelly, these are excellent additions to your setup.
At 11 feet, this mummy features motion-activated LED illumination in the eyes and chest, poseable shoulders for adjusting its reaching posture, and included cloth strips for a weathered, customizable look. It runs on a plug-in power adapter and comes with ground stakes and an extension base.
The Perilous Plant Monster stands 8 feet tall with an intricate bone-and-vine design, a motion-sensor-activated middle head that moves when trick-or-treaters walk by, and LED-lit eyes and mouth. It plays three different sounds and brings a distinctly different silhouette to a yard full of skeletons—think Little Shop of Horrors meets a haunted forest.
At 5.5 feet, it is scaled for porches and entryways rather than full-yard takeovers, with three synchronized animatronic movements, three haunting sound effects, and glowing red LED eyes. It pairs well alongside the Plant Monster for a cohesive Wicked Woods display, or it works as a standalone scare at your front door.
The Groundbreaker sits at 4.5 feet and is designed to look like it is clawing its way out of the ground, with color-changing LEDs that cycle through multiple hues after dark.
Shop early—these decorations are known to sell out
If Skelly’s six-year streak taught us anything, it’s that it stinks to miss out on the best decor because you were waiting for just the right time to order. At the time we’re writing this, everything’s still in stock, but that won’t be the case for long as spooky season quickly approaches.
