Ruggable released a bunch of new rugs this year—here are our favorites

Ruggable's collection of machine-washable rugs keeps getting better

I love a good rug. Walking around my house, this is probably obvious—there’s hardly an inch of bare floor anywhere. I can’t think of another piece of decor that fills a space with so much personality and warmth.

That being said, most rugs have their limitations. It’s pretty painful to spend hundreds of dollars on something that will inevitably wind up attracting dirt, pet hair, and the occasional splash of red wine. What’s a budget-conscious, pet-friendly, Merlot-loving rug enthusiast to do? Los Angeles-based Ruggable has the answer.

What is Ruggable?

You’ve probably seen Ruggable’s ads on Instagram, but savvy social media marketing isn’t what makes the company special. Rugs from Ruggable are machine-washable, stain-resistant, and waterproof. Yes, that means it’s no big deal when your pup has an accident on the living room floor, or when you up-end your extra-greasy pizza in your haste to get him outside. Spills can be wiped off the rug, and if it’s really looking bad, you can toss the whole thing in the washing machine.

Ruggable accomplishes all this with its unique rug design. Instead of being constructed from one big piece of material, Ruggable rugs come in two pieces: a hypoallergenic cover and a non-slip base. When you want to give the rug a good wash, you can just tear off the cover, making it small enough to fit into most washing machines. This design also means you can buy a variety of covers and swap them out whenever you want, saving money and storage space. If that’s not good enough, these rugs start at $109, which is a pretty remarkable bargain.

We've already tested and loved Ruggable, but the company has been coming out with great new rugs all year round. We've gone through their collection and gathered some of the very best.

1. A perfect rug for the tasteful geek

That's no moon...it's a waterproof Star Wars rug!

Ruggable’s Star Wars rugs offer the perfect balance of subtlety and nerdery. This line currently includes twenty different rugs inspired by the Star Wars universe, with designs that are just abstract enough to blend into other decor. The line of rugs released in August 2020, and since then, we've seen the brand introduce a number of fun new designs for members of the Star Wars fandom.

I love this approach to fandom merchandise—you know you’re standing aboard the Millennium Falcon, but the rug doesn’t stick out as a novelty item. If you like this idea but Star Wars isn’t your jam, you might like Ruggable’s line of Disney-themed rugs.

2. An outdoor rug that will keep the greenery going all year

Seat your friends on these fronds

Ruggable released its line of outdoor rugs in June and we loved every second of it. The outdoor rugs are just as sturdy as the indoor ones, and they provide a much-needed pop of character to otherwise bland outdoor spaces.

This gorgeous outdoor rug features a trendy monstera design that will bring a tropical vibe to even the coldest days. Although all Ruggable rugs are waterproof, this one is specially designed to withstand outdoor weather. Reviewers say this rug transforms decks and even driveways into welcoming gathering spaces, and that the material is sturdy while still being nice to the touch. It’s great in front of an outdoor pool, or anywhere it might be trampled by wet and dirty feet.

3. A minimalist rug that says a lot without being loud

Gather your friends ROUND this minimalist circular rug

Ruggable also released another line of incredible new rugs in June—round ones. This beautiful round rug uses traditional design elements to make a completely modern geometric pattern. It’s simple enough to work in a minimalist space, but also unique enough to be an attention-grabber. Buyers say it stands up to messes from pets and kids with no problem—but also recommend getting a friend to help lay it down on the pad, since it can be tough to smooth out the fabric with only one set of hands.

4. A brand new rug that looks like an heirloom

You don't have to dig through your grandma's attic to find a rug with an appealingly worn-in look

This particular rug is part of Ruggable's Founder's Farmhouse collection, a line of rugs designed with the founder's own vintage taste in mind.

Something about this rug’s desaturated colors and faded design makes it look spectacularly soft and inviting. Its intricate details are balanced by the distressed look, giving the feeling of a family heirloom. Reviewers confirm it looks just as great in person, with Laura M. writing that it “looks fantastic in my kitchen and definitely doesn’t look like a ‘faux’ rug.”

5. A funky rug to commemorate the falling leaves

No one can stop you from using this rug all year round

Ready to dive headfirst into fall? This quirky graphic rug will instantly get you there. Despite the fact that this rug is fall-themed, it's actually part of Ruggable's Halloween rug collection, which debuted in September and features a number of fun autumnal designs.

The leaves face in different directions, so the rug looks good from every angle—and it’s generically autumnal enough to take you from Halloween through Thanksgiving. Seasonal designs are a great opportunity to take advantage of the fact that Ruggable’s rug covers are easy to swap out and store. Just roll this cover up and keep it in storage until next year—or commit to the bit, and spend the whole year celebrating the fall.

6. The only white plush rug that can survive life with kids and animals

Because every rug should offer both style and comfort

Given that Ruggable rugs are meant to work with brooms and disinfectant sprays, it’s not surprising that most of them are very low-pile. This plush option shakes things up in the best way. Ruggable unveiled its plush collection in July, just in time for the cooler months.

This rug is still machine-washable, but it’s also fluffy and super soft underfoot. The reviews make it clear this is one of the softest rugs Ruggable offers—and that while it does shed, it’s still super easy to clean. As Rebecca P. writes, "We live at the beach and the ease of keeping these rugs clean weaves seamlessly to our coastal lifestyle. So happy Ruggable keeps expanding their designs - there is truly something for everyone.”

7. A Christmas rug to ring in the holidays in style

Festive but subtle, this rug will look great well after the hoidays

No holiday is complete without colorful decor. Ruggable released its Holiday and Christmas rug collection in September, and it features all kinds of designs, from snowman-centric rugs to minimalist checkerboard designs with holiday colors.

You don’t get much more classic than this checkered red and green option. Its lowkey, traditional color palette works with almost any decor style, but if you’re looking for something funkier, never fear—Ruggable’s winter and holiday rugs range from understated to super quirky. This one offers subtle festivity, and stands up to muddy winter boots admirably.

8. A modern botanical design that's both woodsy and sleek

It's no surprise this stylish rug comes from the world of fashion

Ruggable offers hundreds of rugs, but this one from the Cynthia Rowley collection might be my favorite. Each rug in this line (which debuted in May) features a unique, original design from fashion designer Cynthia Rowley's studio, and they’re just as bold and cool as you’d expect. I'm smitten with this wild botanical design, but I also love the bright and colorful options. No matter which rug from this collection catches your eye, it’s sure to make a statement.

Keep things bright with this vibrant rug

The multicolor stripes on this outdoor rug manage to be eye-catching without being overwhelmingly busy. Reviews love how bright it is, and that the vibrant colors stand up through numerous washes. Beachy and modern, this rug is a great way to add a pop of bold color to a space without overwhelming the whole room.

10. A splashy watercolor design in black and white

This tie-dye reminiscent pattern is both fresh and nostalgic

This funky black and white rug has got to be one of my favorites from Ruggable’s entire collection. With a galactic watercolor pattern, the design is intricate while retaining simplicity. This rug would look great in a home office or a creative space. It’s not wild enough to be distracting, but it's still bold and unique.

11. A rich red rug with timeless appeal

It's tough to improve on a classic, but this rug rises to the test

Someday, when I have a gorgeous personal library full of high shelves and hanging plants, this Persian-style rug will be right in the center. The rich warm red hues are classic and timeless, but the crisp angular pattern gives it a modern, unique edge. It’s cozy and sophisticated at once, making it easy to work into just about any room.

12. A versatile outdoor rug that will never go out of style

This checkered outdoor rug works great under a deck table or picnic area

While this black and white checkered rug is technically a part of Ruggable’s outdoor collection, it really doesn’t have to be constrained to the deck. Clean and simple, it’ll give any space an added spark without demanding attention. Reviewers love how crisp and easy to launder it is, but also mention that the black checks look closer to navy blue in person.

13. A traditional rug with a hidden surprise

With this intricate Disney rug, you'll be an I Spy champion

At first glance, this rug looks like a traditional Persian design—but can you spot the hidden Mickey Mouse pattern woven into the mandala? It’s another example of a lowkey novelty item that doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Reviewers say the colors are even richer in person, and that the level of detail is really striking, even if you don’t pick up on the mousey motif.

14. A floral rug that will lighten up the room

This rug will bring folksy brightness into your home

This folk art-inspired piece is everything I want from a floral rug. I love the clean, vintage-feeling design of the flowers, and how the contrast with the white background makes even the relatively muted colors pop. Buyer Karen R. writes that she put the rug in her den, and "with lots of sunlight coming in the room, the rug colors make the area feel light and comfortable. Love, love that it’s washable!"

15. A cushy rug pad to keep your feet happy

Two images of a rug pad

Your feet will thank you for the extra padding

I’m cheating on this one—Ruggable’s new Cushioned Rug Pad is a pad, not a rug, but we’re still excited about it.

Ruggable's products get pretty consistent reviews. People love that the rugs are easy to clean and exchange, and tend to agree that they’re a little tricky to lay down the first time. Many reviewers also note that these rugs are very flat, without much cushion underneath. That’s not a problem if you’re just looking for decor, but if you also want to spend cozy evenings sitting on the floor and doing seasonally appropriate puzzles, you might be craving extra cushion. This 10-millimeter thick cushion is here to provide just that. We’re in the process of testing this rug pad right now, and we can't wait to let you know how it stacks up.
