UPDATE: January 9th, 2013—After getting some more hands-on time with Samsung's products, we've learned a few new things about the company's Smart Home update. Turns out the new suite of apps, featuring Evernote and a semi-creepy baby monitor function that works with your smart phone, is only coming to the RF4289HARS, a fridge that we reviewed a few months ago. The T9000 is going to be released sans wireless, giving Samsung a chance to see how the American market will react to the new fridge format. If sales are good, we may see the Smart Home added to it some time in the future. You can learn more about the whole update here.

After debuting some fancy new TVs, Samsung's CES press conference quickly moved into the kitchen. While you can read more about the overall product information in the companion piece to this article, one of the most important things with this year's lineup is the reboot of the Smart Home app, which we first saw in 2011 with updates at CES 2012.

The T9000 fridge — a four-door wonder with a convertible compartment that can act as fridge or freezer — gets all the current apps that are available on models released last year, in addition to Evernote — the app that allows you to share documents and photos across your phone and multiple computers. You can even use the speaker in the fridge as a baby monitor: leave your smart phone in the nursery while you're preparing a meal, and you can keep an ear out for any noise through your appliance. According to Samsung, the new T9000 will be available in late Spring 2013 for an MSRP of $3,999.

There's no NFC, like LG debuted earlier today, and there weren't any announcements about smart ovens or smart laundry. Chances are that other fridges in the lineup will get similar refreshes in the near future, though, and perhaps that innovation will someday extend to the laundry room.

We look forward to learning more about the improved functionality and connectivity when we peruse the Samsung booth tomorrow on the CES show floor.
