Introduction

Front

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

The WiFi-enabled {{product.name}}'s front is dominated by a large LCD touchscreen that's used to control all washer functions. This means there aren't any other buttons on the front except for power and pause/start buttons. Otherwise, its a pretty straightforward washer with a large door. Available exterior colors are white and a shade of gray that Samsung calls Onyx.

If you choose not to control the {{product.model}} from its front panel -- or if you're in another room altogether -- there's an available smartphone app that mirrors the information shown on the LCD screen and lets you start and stop washes.

Washing Cycles

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

There's the usual complement of wash cycles -- normal, -- plus a special wash for bedding and sanitizing clothing. In addition, the smartphone app features specialty wash cycles for particular situations. For instance, "Mechanical" is for washing grease out of clothes while "Office" is for removing pesky ink and toner stains. Those names aren't finalized, but the wash cycles are. Because they're included in the smartphone app, they don't require a massive control panel.

Customization

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Like most Samsung washers, the {{product.model}} features adjustable temperatures and spin speeds, plus extra rinses and spins and a customizable My Cycle preset. Washes cannot be customized from the smartphone app, however.

Additional Wash Options

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

The {{product.model}} also features a new wash system that's currently known as Smart Spray. According to Samsung, it uses two distinct spray patterns to tweak a wash cycle so that it's 25 percent shorter.

While the name isn't finalized, the feature will be debuting on upcoming Samsung washers, and we'll be sure to test it out as soon as we can get a Smart Spray-equipped washer into our lab.

Detergent Dispenser

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

There's a standard Samsung detergent dispenser on this unit.

Washer Door

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

The {{product.model}}'s door is heavy and made of glass. It's nice and wide, though, which means unloading wet clothes will be pretty easy.

Ease of Use

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

As long as you can get the {{product.model}} connected to a WiFi network, you should have no problem using it. On the show floor at CES, we witnessed the prototype unit having some hiccups, but we'll chalk that up to brand new technology. Still, this particular washer might be better suited for someone who feels comfortable around gadgets.

Controls

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Instead of a large knob or a series of buttons, the {{product.model}} is controlled by a touch-sensitive LCD screen or a smartphone app. It can be extremely simple to select a commonly used cycle, the user interface is very straightforward and the touch screen is responsive. If you want to geek out over your laundry, there are also tons of sub-menus to explore.

Conclusion

{{product.vanity}}

With smartphone connectivity and a new washing system, the {{product.model}} is a washer we're very eager to test in our lab.
