If you prioritize spending money with companies that reflect your values, you want to seek out brands that are certified B-Corps. Not sure what that means? We’ve got you.

A Certified B-Corporation is a business that meets an elevated set of standards spanning its social impact, transparency, legal accountability, and environmental repercussions. It’s a certification developed and awarded by B Lab, a nonprofit founded in 2006 to set standards for and recognize for-profit corporations that serve not only their stakeholders but society as a whole. The “B” in the name stands for “beneficial,” and B-Corp certification is a great way to find companies that you can feel good about using your dollars to do less harm and more good in the world.

To become a B-Corp, a company undergoes the B Impact Assessment (BIA). This review is a "rigorous assessment of a company’s impact on its workers, customers, community, and environment.” Then, the company’s score is publicly shared online, and a score of 80 or higher qualifies for certification.

Many B-Corps may also meet the requirements for Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification, OEKO TEX certification, and some are Fair Trade Certified and Bluesign approved. These companies also tend to be more ethical in their sourcing of materials grown using sustainable agricultural practices and are more likely to pay fair wages, invest in communities, conduct cruelty-free testing, and more.

If you were to peek at product labels around your house, you may be surprised at what B-Corp companies you didn’t even know were there. The B-Corp website even has an incredible directory you can use to search and filter by industry, country, or state to research brands that align with your values. Here are some great ways to get started.

1. Clean with eco-friendly products

We’ve been bombarded with information about cleaning and disinfectant products over the past year. There are bleach- and vinegar-based products, as well as many others with various combinations of chemicals and substances to keep your home clean and germ- or virus-free. However, cleaning products can also cause harm—specifically, think about the ones in your home that have child-safety caps or require you to wear gloves and hold your breath while using.

Companies with B-Corp certification, like Grove Collaborative, 7th Generation, and Dropps, make cleaning way easier. These brands are go-tos for home staples like cleaning products, mops, compost materials, zero-waste kitchen supplies, body care products, and food storage. If your kitchen or bathroom needs some tidying up, these are the B-Corps to shop directly.

2. Dress greener

Patagonia is one of the best-known B-Corp companies, and its score of 166 puts it in the upper echelon of B-Corp brands. You can see the long list of B-Corp awards the brand has received over the last few years, all of which speak to Patagonia’s community- and environment-focused practices. It makes all types of outdoor gear, outerwear, and a robust range of supplies for outdoor adventures.

Whether you’re into hiking, fishing, climbing, or surfing, the brand has clothing and gear to help you be prepared for any weather. Patagonia’s site also features a Worn Wear section where you can buy used items to save money and divert clothing from landfills. Plus, according to the site, "buying used extends a garment's life by about two years, which cuts its combined carbon, waste, and water footprint by 82%.”

3. Swap out your mattress

You spend a lot of time on your mattress—make sure it’s one you can trust with your sleep. Since any chemicals in or on your mattress come into close contact with your skin for extended periods, finding one you feel confident in is a great investment in your sleep and overall health. If you’re in the mattress market, consider an Avocado Green mattress or mattresses, bedding, and sleepwear from Cariloha.

Both are B-Corp companies with conscious environmental footprints and generous transparency. The Avocado Green Mattress, which we've tested and liked because it doesn't retain heat overnight, is also GOTS- and OEKO-TEX-certified. Cariloha uses bamboo in its sheets, pillows, and even mattresses for a soft, more sustainable option.

4. Swap out your paper products—yes, that kind of paper

You can make a more responsible choice everywhere, including the bathroom. UK-based Root 7 Ltd., parent company of Bumboo has been a certified B-Corp since 2024. The brand offers its 3-ply, 300-sheet (that’s 30 meters) 100% bamboo toilet paper rolls in both white and unwhitened versions, as well as prewrapped rolls.

Bumboo’s bamboo toilet paper and paper towels are made without any forever chemicals, nor any inks or dyes, and they’re vegan-certified as well. The bamboo is certified sustainably harvested by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and the resulting paper is safe to use in both septic tank systems and composting toilets. And even the packaging is thoughtfully produced, with recycled boxes, craft tape, and no plastic. The company also pledges to donate to Rewilding Britain, a nonprofit that helps restore native habitats to increase biodiversity and trap more greenhouse gas emissions, with each purchase.

5. Clean your household air responsibly

Keeping the air in your house clean has many benefits—air purifiers can remove allergens, chemicals, dust, and odors, so everyone breathes a little easier. If helping remove environmental pollutants from your home is part of your broader mission to improve overall air quality, then there are several B-Corp companies you should check out.

Italian company Vitesy makes air purifiers for the home, the fridge, and on the go, and was certified as a B-Corp this summer. Swedish firm Blueair has been certified since 2023. Both brands make air purifiers we flagged as top developments from the 2025 IFA show in Berlin.

6. Decorate with more care

You want your home to reflect your values. Luckily, there’s no shortage of home décor and furniture brands with B-Corp certifications that make beautiful and functional things you’ll be proud to own.

Alessi is an Italian maker of houseware, barware, furniture, and tableware so stylish that they’re museum favorites, and it’s been a B-Corp since 2017. Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Room & Board has been certified since 2023 and makes well-made, classic mid-century modern furniture. And Ark Lighting, an Australian lighting brand that specializes in industrial lighting as well as recessed lighting and vintage designs, was just named a B-Corp this year.

7. Recycle food waste

Diverting your compostable food waste from the landfill makes a big impact: According to the EPA, food is the single biggest waste material in landfills, comprising a whopping 24.1% of municipal solid waste. Food waste alone is responsible for 58% of landfill methane emissions. With Lomi’s Smart Waste System, scrape in leftovers, food scraps, and other organic material, and in as little as three hours, the recycler will heat and grind your waste, turning it into nutrient-rich dirt.

It’s no surprise, then, that Lomi's parent company, Pela, and Lomi have been a B-Corp since 2019. (The Pela arm of the business is equally sustainably minded, manufacturing compostable phone cases.) With Lomi in your kitchen, you'll dramatically reduce the amount of garbage you send to landfill, and even create some rich dirt you can add to your plants to help them thrive. It's a win all around.
