This Oven Teaches You To Be a Better Cook
Miele's latest wall oven doubles as a cooking school

German high-end appliance manufacturer Miele introduced a new line of ovens that walk even the most timid of chefs through complex recipes step by step.
The key is a MasterChef touchscreen, which comes standard on the Generation 6000 line of wall ovens. It's loaded with recipes from cupcakes to baked potatoes. Choose a program, and it'll tell you what temperature to pick, when to put the food in, and even what rack to put it on.
The Generation 6000 line also adds MasterChef Plus, which includes bread proofing and baking, and has programmed settings for every kind of bread from brioche to Italian.
In addition, the 30-inch ovens feature a dedicated water line, and can automatically add moisture to keep foods from drying out.
We tried them out first on the show floor at the Architectural Digest show in New York, and again at EuroCucina in Milan and found the interface to be quite easy to use. If you already know how to make a dish, it's easy to fire MasterChef and do the work yourself.
While the water line and bread proofing are Miele exclusives, other high-end manufacturers like Wolf and Jenn-Air debuted similar touchscreens on new products at the Architectural Digest show. Chances are, similar features will be trickling down to midrange appliances in the near future. It'll allow consumers to explore new recipes under the watchful eye of a trained oven.
Miele also introduced a new color at the show. Called Truffle Brown, the chocolatey finish is kind of like Daft Punk's neo-disco: Initially, it may remind you of the '70s, but a shimmering, mirrored finish adds a modern twist.
We don't think Truffle Brown will displace stainless steel, or even the Brilliant White finish the company debuted last year, but it is an example of color creativity in the kitchen.
