Coterie is a brand specializing in high-quality, hypoallergenic baby products free of many harmful additives, fragrances, and parabens. It offers a direct-to-home shipping model with subscription options and bundles (diapers, wipes, and new training pants, etc.).

Coterie's flagship product is The Diaper, a premium baby diaper that features high-quality materials and a luxurious feel. The Diaper is not only designed for maximum comfort and minimal irritation—it's also meant to be a more effective diaper.

The Diaper absorbs large amounts of liquid quickly and pulls it away from the baby's skin, leading to fewer diaper rashes and overnight leaks. The diaper itself uses soft, apparel-grade material and a clever design that maximizes coverage and holds a snug fit.

We originally tested and reviewed Coterie's The Diaper back in 2020, but retested to see if their reputation remains strong now six years later.

How we tested

My wife and I have four children under the age of six. I can't imagine a better testing ground for diapers than that.

True story: in less than two minutes of searching, within a single closet in our home, I put my hands on no fewer than nine diaper brands, ranging from Walmart's Parent's Choice to premium options including Hello Bello and HealthyBaby.

In other words, diapers are not just a product in our home. They are a way of life. And I'd been in hot pursuit of the best diaper on the market for years before penning this review.

For The Diaper by Coterie, I enlisted the help of my superhuman wife, Jessa, and our adorable 5-month-old baby boy to test Size 3 diapers, suited for babies weighing 14–24 pounds.

This review draws on the simple, daily experiences of a couple of sleepyhead parents trying to keep their baby dry and happy rather than on rigorous lab tests.

What we like

The diapers are high-quality and do their job

Right off the bat, Coterie diapers do their job.

All the hype about clean materials and softness would be meaningless if you're still greeted with wet PJs in the crib every morning. But these diapers make good on Coterie's most practical promises.

Coterie's test data indicate that its Size 4 diaper can hold 16 ounces of liquid, providing 12 hours of leak protection. Anecdotally, on a particularly sleepy night, my baby wore the same diaper for around 13 hours and woke up in completely dry pajamas. On other mornings, if "number two" was involved, I saw slight leakage from the full diaper, but its coverage far exceeded other options I've used in the past.

When putting The Diaper through its paces, I focused chiefly on definitive measurables. How much liquid did it absorb? How snug was the fit? Was there a mess on the sheets?

But what caught my wife's attention was less the quality itself than how that quality affected our baby. Many diapers tout absorbency, but in our daily testing, we noticed Coterie diapers were not only more absorbent but also moved moisture away from our baby's skin faster than others.

All of my children have been prone to rashes, even with diligent diaper checks and changes. But during our weeks of testing these diapers, we saw virtually no signs of adverse skin reactions. That's likely a combination of the quality of the diaper's materials, the absence of irritants, and its absorbency.

A rash-free baby equals a happy baby. A happy baby equals happy parents.

They're made with clean materials

Today, parents and caregivers are paying close attention to what goes into and onto their kids' bodies—with good reason.

Aside from small windows like bathtime, a child will wear a diaper every minute of every day for the first few years of their life. That alone is enough to warrant a close inspection of the materials that go into the diapers we buy.

Coterie designs its diapers with sensitive skin in mind. The company boasts that The Diaper is "Total Chlorine Free (TCF), with no added fragrance, parabens, latex, or lotions" and EWG-verified by the Environmental Working Group for being free of over 3,900 "ingredients of concern."

The Diaper also underwent third-party testing and is certified free from over 1,000 potentially harmful chemicals, which is music to this parent's ears.

Coterie diapers are the softest around

No doubt there are other diapers that get the job done, but I've never felt a diaper as soft as Coterie's. The company claims to use "ultra-soft, apparel-grade materials," and that is the case.

As I write this, I'm holding eight other diaper brands (what a life), and there's no comparison in build quality and softness. Some of the competitors—and not just the discount brands—feel brittle and plasticky compared to Coterie.

I asked my 5-month-old baby to comment on how the diapers felt compared to other brands we've tried, but he declined to answer for the time being.

Direct-to-home shipping for the win

I live in a rural area where the locals like to close shop when the sun goes down. That's all fine and dandy until your baby has a blowout at 11 p.m. and you didn't make it to the store in time.

Don't ask me how I know.

Coterie ships diapers directly to your home on a four-week schedule, so when the box is running low, another is already on the way. I like that peace of mind.

What we don't like

They're expensive

The biggest drawback to Coterie's diaper is the price tag. It's as simple as that.

At $95 per box with a subscription, you'll pay roughly between $0.50 and $1 per diaper, depending on the size you need. If you've ever tallied the diapers you throw away throughout the day, you can see how quickly that number adds up.

Annoyingly, shipping isn't free either unless you spend at least $110 per order. For my address, the cost was an extra $10 for standard 2–6 business-day shipping. Coterie's FAQ page states that customers can typically expect their orders to arrive within 1–5 business days.

That's not to say you don't get your money's worth. More than any other premium diaper brand I've used, Coterie earns its price. I can't find anything about the diaper's design that I would tweak.

But the price barrier is real, and it's the only reason I would ever hesitate to recommend Coterie diapers to another parent. However, if you determine there's room in your diaper budget, you will probably find it's worth it.

They're not perfect

There's something about spending roughly $100 for a box of diapers that elevates expectations and makes every tiny leak feel monumental.

Of course, a million factors can lead to a leaky diaper, and we didn't experience a single blowout during our testing. But consider this my fair warning to other parents who think like me: the price tag doesn't change the fact that babies are still adorably messy and there are no foolproof diapers.

Should you buy The Diaper by Coterie?

Yes, if you value quality materials and it fits into your budget

After changing countless diapers for my four boys over the last six years, I can confidently say I've never encountered another diaper that compares in overall quality, coverage, and softness.

Is this diaper a necessity? Not at all. There are plenty of more affordable diapers that do a perfectly serviceable job of keeping your little one dry throughout the day.

At the end of the day, it is still a disposable diaper.

However, if you and your baby are both looking for a change and it fits within your budget, you won't find a better diaper on the market than Coterie's The Diaper (available at Coterie) .
