How we tested
Usually, I write about tech, but two years (and two kids) into the journey of parenting has given me a pretty good idea of what makes a good diaper, and definitely what makes a sub-par one. We tested the Pampers Amore diapers in the best way you can test a new diaper—by using them. My 5-month-old daughter was the test subject. I paid attention to fit, leaks, and feel. While I obviously wasn’t going to leave her unchanged when she needed to be changed, she seemed to take to the task of testing the absorbency and blowout-proof claims all on her own. We used the diapers for a few weeks before writing up the review.
What we like
They're quite soft
Perhaps the first thing you'll notice when you open the box is how soft the Pampers Amore diapers are. Pampers markets the diapers as softer than cashmere, and while I'm not quite sure that's truly the case, they are indeed softer than your average diaper—and, according to Pampers, softer than the Pampers Pure diaper that so many parents love.
Soft diapers aren't just great for the comfort of your baby—they can be helpful for your baby's skin, too. The materials used in Pampers Amore diapers are reasonably lightweight, and if your baby sometimes seems uncomfortable in diapers, these might help.
They offer excellent absorbency and leak protection
Pampers Amore diapers are absorbent with lots of layers to protect against leaks.
Apart from simply being comfortable, the Pampers Amore diapers are designed to be ultra-absorbent. Absorbency is another area where Pampers says the Pampers Amore are upgraded over the Pampers Pure, with a five-layer system. Now, obviously, you'll see big claims around absorbency on the box of every diaper that you buy, but these did seem to do the job quite well. We didn't run into any leaks or blowouts during testing, though to be fair, we don't often with our current diapers (Huggies Little Snugglers), either.
Like many other modern diapers, the Pampers Amore diapers have a wetness indicator line on the front so you can get a visual cue when it might be time for a change. However, Pampers Amore has an understated design that makes the color of the wetness indicator easier to see at a glance. I'm all for having fun characters on diapers, but sometimes it can make it difficult to recognize when you need to change your kid.
They are made with hypoallergenic materials
Made with gentle materials, Pampers Amore diapers are a great choice for many babies with sensitive skin.
Pampers has made an effort to ensure that the Amore diapers work for babies with a variety of different skin-related needs. To that end, these diapers are fragrance-free, paraben-free, elemental chlorine-free, and natural rubber latex-free. These things may not be all that important to some parents, but more and more are starting to examine the materials used in baby products and making purchase decisions based on that. On top of ensuring that the Amore are free from potentially irritating materials, Pampers goes the extra step to market them as being hypoallergenic, noting that they have been dermatologically accredited by the Skin Health Alliance in third-party lab testing.
Our family didn't have any problems with the materials used in the Amore diapers, but in doing research for this review, I came across some parents who noted on Reddit that their child with eczema continued to experience rashes while using Pampers Amore diapers. This isn't necessarily something to count against Pampers. Different babies have different needs, and there is never going to be a product that works for every single baby. Overall, these diapers are designed to meet most skin needs.
What we don't like
The higher price tag can be limiting
Pampers Amore are designed to sit at the premium end of the spectrum, and as such, they're not as cheap as alternatives. In fact, they can cost significantly more than much of the competition. For context, I typically buy Huggies Little Snugglers diapers. On Amazon, they usually run around $0.28 to $0.34 per diaper for size 2 diapers, depending on how big a box you buy. These are already relatively expensive diapers, but the Pampers Amore come in at around $0.38 to $0.41 per diaper. Individually, that doesn't sound like much, but any parent knows it can add up quickly.
Should you buy Pampers Amore?
Yes, if you're willing to pay for better, softer diapers and/or you have a rashy baby
Pampers Amore diapers may be more expensive than many alternatives, but in this case, spending more gets you a better product. The Amore diapers are very soft, clearly designed to mitigate any skin reactions, and in day-to-day use, they performed well in terms of absorbency and leak prevention. If you don't mind spending that cash, Pampers Amore is a great choice.
