Warmies stuffed animals

Most kids have a favorite stuffy they turn to when they need a cuddly companion. Stuffed animals aren’t just snuggly soft toys; they bring comfort to kiddos (and sometimes adults) looking for soothing sensory input and they help children work through big feelings.

We may typically have low expectations of our stuffed animals. Most collections serve no other purpose than to clutter the side of a child's bed, left to make friends with the dust bunnies.

The brand Warmies, however, has created a line of stuffies that do more than sit around looking cute. These plush toys give a soothing multi-sensory experience and made this self-professed "stuffy hater" a convert.

About Warmies stuffed animals

Warmies cozy plush toys and stuffed animals are weighted, aromatherapy stuffies that hit on an array of senses to soothe and comfort. Filled with flax seed and French lavender, they offer a calming experience somewhat similar to that which you’d get from a weighted blanket. They can also be heated in the microwave, which helps to ignite a luxurious lavender aromatherapy experience.

What we like about Warmies

Even our pup loved Warmies!

They are weighted

Weighted blankets have definitely gained popularity in recent years, but to be perfectly honest, neither my son nor I are fans. While weighted blankets are purported to calm and soothe anxious bodies and minds, the only feeling we get from them is sweaty claustrophobia.

Warmies are filled with flax seeds rather than typical stuffing, making them heavier than the average stuffed animal—and to a pretty nice benefit.

Both my son and I felt instantly soothed by the weighted feel of the Warmies stuffed animals. We’ve been working on self-regulating breathing exercises and were able to use the Warmies to help my son better understand diaphragmatic breathing. He also said putting his Warmie on his chest made him feel calmer when he was agitated.

They are warming

There’s a reason why they are called Warmies, and it’s not just the warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you cuddle up with them. Warmies are made to be popped in the microwave; these fully microwavable soft toys take warming comfort up a notch.

That flaxseed we mentioned not only makes Warmies heavier, but it also helps them to retain heat. Our Warmies stayed warm for at least 45 minutes—totally enough time to soothe an anxious mind or to unwind a wired child at bedtime.

They are lavender scented

Our favorite Warmie was the sea turtle. It sat nice and flat on the chest to give distributed compression.

Mixed in with the heat-conducting flax seed is some soothing French lavender. Lavender has proven aromatherapy benefits that include reducing anxiety and depression and improving sleep. You can’t really smell the lavender until you heat the Warmies but, once you do, it’s bliss.

The relaxing lavender scent was such a lovely bonus. It encouraged both my son and me to breathe more deeply, further enhancing the benefits of Warmies.

They are good for all ages

While the stuffed animal Warmies line definitely has an appeal that smaller kids will love, these are high-quality plushes. If you have a teen or young adult who loves soothing sensory input or is a fan of ASMR experiences, they'll like the Warmies line, which includes animal wraps and Squishmallow-style Supersized Warmies.

They are a secret weapon

If you are a person who menstruates, get your kid a Warmie and steal it for a couple of hours every month. I did and I have no regrets. I was particularly partial to the sea turtle because it flopped nice and flat on my abdomen, however, I’m currently eyeing one of Warmie’s heat packs for just this purpose.

What we don’t like about Warmies

You can’t wash them

Warmies are a pretty simple and straightforward toy, with a touch of ingenuity to them. If we were to find one fault it would be that they aren’t machine washable. Kids are going to love this toy and it may get dirty quickly. In my experience, a machine-washable stuffy is a godsend.

That being said, I’m not sure how they could possibly pull off a machine washable toy without ruining the stuffing. Flaxseed will expand in the wash and the lavender will lose its scent so, if you’re tempted to try tossing this one in the washer, just don’t.

Should you buy Warmies

We loved these heatable, lavender-scented toys.

Yes.

Every kid loves stuffed animals but, let’s face it, once they start receiving them at every holiday they can start to feel like pointless, dust-collecting clutter. Kids still love them but most parents we know reach a point where they start to look for ways to discreetly toss them out. Warmies aren’t just cute and cuddly, they have a purpose.

These heatable lavender-scented soft toys make for an extra special stuffy. Costing about the same amount as any other high-quality stuffed animals, these make for a great gift that stands out among a sea of stuffed animals.

While we are currently looking for ways to purge our child’s stuffed animal pile, Warmies are a toy we don’t mind adding to our kid’s collection. What’s more, Warmies makes a whole line of adult-focused Wellness Wraps, slippers, and more. After enjoying the benefits of these heatable, lavender-scented cuties, we’re going to hop on their site and do a little shopping for ourselves.
