In a press release this afternoon, Canon announced a new flagship printer for its All-In-One Printers line. The Canon PIXMA MP 960 is a seven color printer which also includes scanning functionality and is already available on the company website.
The PIXMA MP 960 is touted as the only seven-color multifunction printer on the market that utilizes the ChromaLife100 system, according to Canon’s press release. This new flagship is being advertised on the site as being able to print quality photos faster than the time it would take a consumer to drive to a photo lab.
'The Canon PIXMA MP960 model combines all of the best features from our PIXMA line of high quality printers and all-in-one devices, and is truly the ultimate home photo kiosk,' said Yukiaki Hashimoto, senior vice president and general manager of the consumer imaging group at Canon U.S.A., Inc., in the press release.
The PIXMA MP960 has a resolution of 9600 x 2400 color dpi to produce photographs as well as other documents. The PIXMA MP960 includes a FINE technology print head featuring 3,584 nozzles. The printer has a seven-color ink system comprised of six dye-based inks used for reproducing photos as well as a pigment-based black ink used to produce laser-quality text documents, as stated in the press release.
In terms of speed, the PIXMA MP960 can produce a borderless 4 x 6 inch photo in about 35 seconds, according to the press release. The printer can copy documents at 30 pages per minute for black and white documents and 22 pages a minute for color documents.
The PIXMA MP960 also features two paper trays and has the capability to print two-sided documents. For scanning, the PIXMA MP960 has a high resolution maximum of 4800 dpi color. Using a built in adapter, the user can scan up to eight slides or twelve negatives and film. The PIXMA MP960 gives the user, without the need for a computer, the ability to make reprints and enlargements directly from film or prints.
The PIXMA MP960 also incorporates the friendly Canon-to-Canon Direct Advantage; users who have a supported Canon digital SLR can connect directly to the printer and make photo edits or print a contact sheet.
The PIXMA MP960 also supports Bluetooth wireless devices with the purchase of an optional Bluetooth adapter and features wireless infrared printing from supported cell phones. It also has built in card slots for supported memory cards.
The Canon PIXMA MP960 is available immediately on the Canon website for $399.
