September 9, 2007
– Canon USA announced the release at Graph Expo 2007 in Chicago today of two new large-format printers for GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) applications and general large-format printing. The imagePROGRAF iPF610 and imagePROGRAF iPF710 print 24-inch- and 36-inch-wide prints, respectively, and they feature a five-color dye/pigment inkset for super-sharp, narrow lines perfect for maps and design drawings. The iPF610 and iPF710 will be available later this year at estimated prices of $2,295 and $3,995, respectively.

These new printers employ Canon’s fast L-COA image processor that enables, in fast mode, the iPF610 to print an A1/D-sized print (23.4' x 33.1') in 31 seconds, and the iPF710 to print an A0/E-sized print (33.1' x 46.8') in 55 seconds. New to the image PROGRAF line is an illuminated LCD screen.

The Reactive inkset includes four dye inks (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) and one matte-black pigment ink that allows printing of fine lines that are resistant to rubbing, moisture, and bleeding. These inks comes standard in 90-milliliter (ml) cartridges, replaceable with 130-ml, high-capacity tanks. They are sprayed in droplets as small as 4 picoliters using Canon’s FINE print heads, with 15,360 nozzles (2,560 for the four dye inks and 5,120 for the matte-black pigment ink).

Both the iPF610 and iPF710 also feature a four-way paper feed system, allowing users to load paper in a 250-sheet capacity cassette (up to 17 x 23.4-inch paper), via a roll feed, through the top-sheet feeder, or through the front for thicker media. Media accommodated includes plain and coated papers, glossy photo paper, and film.

The printers support HP-GL/2 and HP-RTL page description languages for wide compatibility with a variety of CAD and GIS applications. The iPF610 and iPF710 are compatible with Windows and Mac systems via the AutoCAD imagePROGRAF HDI Driver and imagePROGRAF Printer Driver 2007.

Software bundled with the printers includes: Auto Layout for Mac (Free Layout for Windows), which allows grouping several small drawings onto one sheet; and Digital Photo Front-Access, which helps with workflow. Canon Poster Artist 2007, which assists with poster creation, can be purchased separately.
